I grew up poor. Nobody bought my first car for me, nobody paid rent on my first apartment or handed me my first job. My parents were divorced and I ended up with an abusive step father. When I became an adult I became an alcoholic and built an extensive criminal record to boot.

Nobody gave me a leg up, I dug my own way out of the hole and I am sick of idiots like this West guy telling me that I had a silver spoon and all the advantages.

I was so ticked when I heard and read about what he had said originally but when I actually heard him I felt bad for him. He really is on the dumb side. I can't imagine him being able to make a living doing anything but appealing to like minded simple people on a very low intellectual level. He probably has used the terms in the past. In the present he's a poseur pretending to be "street", even though he grew up middle class, his mother being a professor of English at Chicago State University. His father is a former Black Panther who went on to be a photographer and is now a pastoral counselor. It's uncertain if he talks that way because it's his act, or whether he did actually manage to grow up that ignorant
