Three days later, CNN just ran a modified version of the the Major Garrett story that broke earlier this week. The CNN caption was "What Went Wrong". It aired around 4:30 PM (CST). The segment discussed how Governor Blanco resisted the proposal to federalize the relief effort. It even aired the same footage of Mayor Nagin criticizing the Governor for wanting 24 hours to think over the proposal. The segment also contained commentary by Jamie McIntyre (CNN's Pentagon correspondent) and Donald Rumfeld. Rumsfeld's major point was that for the federal government to enter a state's territory over the objections of an elected Governor would amount to a dangerous breach of the Constitution and the law. The one thing I didn't hear was any mention of the State of Louisiana blocking the Red Cross and Salvation Army from delivering relief supplies to the stranded evacuees. Also, there's a fresh story on the Drudge Report about new revelations of friction between Governor Blanco and the White House during the crucial period last week. Stay tuned.

Ebbert, 62 and a Navy Cross winner in Vietnam, is charged with coordinating the city's terrorism response capabilities and obtaining federal and state funds for homeland security. He also will oversee the police and fire departments, the Office of Emergency Preparedness and city Emergency Medical Services, and the 911 Center or Orleans Parish Communications District.
As CBS News Correspondent Lee Cowan reports nearly 10,000 came to the Superdome with no where else to go. They were either too sick, too old or too poor to flee from the storm. "They're in for another miserable night," Terry Ebbert, chief of homeland security for New Orleans, said Monday afternoon. But he later added: "They're safe."

Retired Marine Col. Terry Ebbert stepped into the local spotlight last week as the nation went to war in Iraq amid national warnings of possible terrorist reprisals.
Ebbert, 60, has been directing the city's new Office of Homeland Security and Public Safety since his appointment by Mayor Ray Nagin on Feb. 11. A highly decorated war hero and the former executive director of the nonprofit New Orleans Police Foundation, Ebbert has been given major powers and responsibilities as an executive assistant to the mayor. His duties are commensurate with his $114,676 annual salary.
Ebbert is charged with coordinating the city's terrorism response capabilities and obtaining federal and state funds for homeland security. He also will oversee the police and fire departments, the Office of Emergency Preparedness and city Emergency Medical Services, and the 911 Center or Orleans Parish Communications District.
His duties extend beyond a crisis or special events such as Mardi Gras. Ebbert has responsibility for the daily operations and planning of all those departments as well as the management of their budgets, Nagin told Gambit Weekly last week, after presenting his plan to re-organize city government to the City Council. "Mr. Ebbert is responsible for all matters related to public safety," the mayor said.
"The superintendents of the Police and Fire Departments and the director of the Office of Emergency Preparedness all report directly to me," Ebbert stated in a Feb. 28 interview. "I report directly to the mayor and those three agencies report directly to me." (Nagin later transferred EMS from the city Health Department to Ebbert's command.) If there is a disagreement between the homeland security chief and the police chief or the fire chief, Ebbert says: "I have the final say over bringing them all together so we all agree. It's a team effort."

Thanks for that article. I had read on another thread about the power brokers meeting, but did not put it together with the almost clandestine arrival of Algore. SHAME ON ME! This reads just like the way things are done here in WV, family relationships and all.
When I see him name on something, I immediately head for the thread.

Unfortunately I think what's happening is the public is tuning out...now running the story has no implications other than tying up loose ends at CNN. The MSM has been on an emotional rampage against the Bush admin for two weeks...the audience is beginning to peter out.

You can bet all the records, even from Baton Rouge, got lost in the storm. The media will say her NG was there in great numbers, blah blah blah, and Bush never did anything blah blah blah. I have no confidence in any commissions, hearings, any of their garbage.
I would love to see that as well. But President Bush doesn't strike me as that kind of a man. He seems to me to be a man of the old school. A man's man who stands strong, takes it on the chin, never wavers and never complains. He knows who he is and he knows the Lord leads him. He trusts in the Lord, he loves all or us and that's all that matters.
He reminds me a little bit of my own father. My parents divorced when I was 14. I can't even remember why but my sister and I blamed my father for their break up. He never complained, never said a bad word about my mother, just always seemed to be around when ever my sister and I would fall and need a helping hand up.
It wasn't until after my mother passed away and I was going through her papers in her lock box that I found out what kind of a man my father really was.
It seems my Mother had left my father for another man. And in my parents divorce papers I read the final added page. Above and beyond the divorce settelment, my father had put enough money in a sort of a trust, and by his own request, for my mother to buy a house to finish raising my sister and I in.
The money didn't go to my mother. But was to be held until my mother found a house and then her lawyer was to use the money to pay for the house.
She never told us how she got the money to buy the house and neither did my father. But when I read those papers, I realized what a wonderful father I have. He could have let us know. He could have told every one. But he told no one. He took it all on the chin, stood strong and loved us anyway. Doing the right thing was his reward.
And that's the kind of man I think President Bush is. He takes it on the chin, stands strong and loves us all anyway. And doing the right thing is his reward.
I have learned in Louisiana that who has lunch with whom is a very important thing to notice.
This article reeks of Louisiana politics and planning for a big money/power grab.
Not entirely correct, albore said he would pay himself if necessary, but a big donor of his stepped up and paid.
Remember this is the man that listed less than $400 in charity giving on his income tax form when was running for president.
Where would albore get a $100,000 to pay for the plane?
Any idea what his financial ties are in NO? I can't believe he carries enough political clout anymore to be of consequence.

He's the one, who a few days into Katrina said that he hadn't seen any FEMA people and had no idea who was running the show or what was going on.
He's also happens to be the head of the New Orleans emergency response team.
This is because THIS story is going out to all the foreign subscribing services of CNN. This is not for the USA, this is to bash Bush and protect democrats.
I bet CNN did not make as much a deal of Ahnold vetoing the homosexual marriage law as they did the hoopla over its passing.
CNN is about promoting the left NOT the truth.
I have been suspecting the same thing. This has the characteristics of a trap. If President Bush had ignored the Louisiana state sovereignty and brought in troops anyway, he would have faced impeachment charges. That would have been a huge price to pay since there was the chance that Katrina might have missed hitting New Orleans completely. If this game was being played, this has greater implications. Now we have a political conspiracy willing to risk the lives of millions of people for the opportunity to trap the President. The indictment hearings would be as historical as the effects of Katrina.
I will stay tuned.

Also your title is a bit misleading, IMHO. If they didn't mention the red cross being blocked, it's not exactly a modified story.
I came here hoping to read that CNN was reporting something pretty lose to what major was reporting.
Actually, one of the first criticisms of Bush I heard was Susan Estrich saying that Bush's bungling of Katrina would affect Bush's Supreme Court nominations negatively...certainly she had the talking points in her hand at that point and she kept saying this...several times at least. I wondered if that is what all their screaming is about. I found it strange that so early on she'd be promoting the idea that Bush's supposed mishandling of Katrina would mean less conservative judges.

Mayor Laura Miller, big Rat, who was in big trouble with Blacks in Dallas before this incident. Here's the truth. Nagin has tons of conventions, meetings etc scheduled in NO. Miller wants them to come to Dallas. She and Nagin are buddies; she kisses him when he gets to the shelter.
Miller wants all these people out of the Dallas shelters so she can have NO conventions and meetings here. Nagin tells the people in the shelter how wonderful Miller and Dallas are. And he is just going to loan his people to her, she can't keep them. (You wouldn't believe the BS). One Black man there simply stated, "I'm staying in Dallas."
So she then uses this occasion to say the Feds have been chaotic, taking too long etc and she is getting funds to move these poor people out of her fancy Reunion and convention centers into apartments. Presto Nagin has conveyed to the Blacks in Dallas to leave her alone, and Miller is saying "See how much I care about these poor victims." And that is the story.
