The fact is the vast majority of the world Muslims are not our enemies. True enough, in fact we would not be able to prosecute the war against the terrorists without our Muslim Allies.
That said, those who executed the 9/11 attacks against the US did so under the banner if Islam. I believe that it is wrong to memorialize the victims of 9/11 with what looks for all the world like the symbol of their murderers.
The design needs to be changed.

What Muslim allies? The 'allies' who will betray us whenever the time is ripe? Whatever. Islam has, since its founding, always been a major force for murder, war and terrorism.

IMO (freely given and worth almost that much) people are looking for a fight where there isn't one. It's a crescent for goodness sakes. If they had a star on it that would be something different, but it doesn't.

Yep, you're right. Personally I doubt that whoever designed this was so twisted they intentionally meant this as an insult to the victims of 9/11. But it is certainly in highly questionable taste to include a memorial feature that can be interpreted as an Islamic symbol - even if that crescent would actually look pretty impressive.
Do we have to ban crescents? No, of course not. But including them in 9/11 memorials seems dumb and insensitive. Personally, I'd leave it up to the families to decide.
