'BIMBO' BLONDES BLOWN OUT
Sky News ^ | 9/5/2005 | Sky News

Posted on 09/10/2005 9:01:42 AM PDT by Mike Bates

Gentlemen apparently no longer prefer blondes.

Instead, they would rather choose the brains and sophistication more often associated with brunettes.

That is according to a study into hair colour and the intensity of attraction, which showed 51% of men thought brunettes were more attractive.

Researchers at City University showed 1,500 men three pictures of the same model digitally enhanced as a blonde, a brunette and a redhead.

They were then asked to give their impressions of the model's personality based on her hair colour.

Brunettes were described as intelligent by 81%, while 67% described them as independent and self-sufficient.

Two-thirds of the men (62%) said the brunette women appeared stable and competent.

The blonde model was described as needy and lacking in independence by four out of ten.

Redheads were thought to be intelligent by 79% of the men, although 45% described them as neurotic.

City University Professor of Psychology Peter Ayton led the research commissioned by hair products company Sunsilk.

He said blonde hair had historically been seen as a symbol of youth which was attractive to men, but added: "As the role of women has evolved, men's expectations of women have changed.

"They're looking for more intense, equal partnerships and appearance has a large role to play."

They can change their hair color at will as far
as I am concerned,
Just so they ARE a girl and have ALWAYS been a girl
is all that matters to me.

Grrroowwwwwwwl...

So...why is it that so many brunettes, then, seem to want to look "less intelligent" [say blonde]?

Eharmony gave me a three month subscribtion for the price of one - I think they did it for the entertainment value

I confess I tried their $40 personal evaluation test (perpetually free). I didn't really like most of their questions and the personality profile they came up with didn't sound like me at all. Needless to say, if they are going to base matchmaking based on a profile I don't believe is true, then I'm not going to get very far with the people they choose based on it.

This is typical of academic researchers. The good professor is missing a critical step in his conclusions. His finding is that men find brunettes to be more "independent and sophisticated." But that does NOT mean that men WANT brunettes over blonds.

Yup. Just like your grandma taught you. Don't listen to what people say. Watch what they do.

I think women look there best when they are real and not all dolled up with peroxide and fake hooters. It just makes them look desperate!

As a man, I agree. I also steer clear of women who overdo the makeup. There's a Tammy Faye Bakker Messner Whatever lurking behind everyone of them. It just screams insecurity to me.

I also laugh (quietly) at women who get boob jobs that look entirely unnatural compared to the rest of their shape. Some smart women have had them done where they look attractive but too many women didn't know when to say when.

With women being able have there hair any color it's not the hair color it who wears the hair color... today a lot of women that want to look "women magazine" hot...they do way to much, to thin, to plastic, to processed, to much my shi- don't stink tude ... what the average men find instinctively attractive about a women is very different then what women set for other women as there goal look...just look at the difference in the women you see in women vs men magazine

Catherine Zeta Jones over some ice pick princess (with or without some fake bolt on plastic boobs) any day

hmm do the distinguish NATURAL blonds?

As long at there is peroxid there will be blonds.

For me the real test was long hair vs short hair. A woman with longer hair is generally more feminine.

There are a lot of cliches about hair color and character that really don't pan out. What's for real is that the hair color industry convinced women that "Anyone can be a blonde." Maybe, but it takes a lot of effort to maintain a dye job. Most of them are obvious fakes. When you learn that, and see how the ends don't match the roots or eyebrows, it's not so attractive. Another dubious statement is that women go blonde to please themselves. There could be something in that, but men's automatic attraction to blondes had a lot to do with forming women's tastes. When men's attraction to fake blondes wanes, so does women's desire for that color.

I think many of the prettiest women happen to be intelligent.

Intelligent women usually learn early on how to maximize their looks. If a woman is a fat, unkempt slob, there is about 100% chance she is also an idiot - or is deliberately making a political statement against "lookism" like Andrea Dworkin. Either way, studies have proven that hourglass-shaped women are the most fertile, so men choose them for subconscious, biological reasons - it has nothing to do with media images or stereotyping. Feminists are so wrong on that point, they might as well be blaming the President for ordering men to avoid ugly women. ;)

Natural blondes are disappearing from the American gene pool as we become more of a Hispanic and Asian nation. And Hispanic and Asian women look rather silly with bleached blonde hair, thus, tastes are changing. Eva Longoria is the ideal now, not Farrah Fawcett.
