AP edits Guards story to fit Media spin.

Dinasour Media bias in action, here is how the story was posted yesterday by AP. Notice how AP edited out the actual QUOTES that DIRECTLY contradicted their spin lie and had the writer write the story interjected their own interpretation of what was said by the sources. Here is yesterdays AP story.

Gen. Steven Blum, chief of the National Guard Bureau, said that "arguably" a day or so of response time was lost due to the absence of the Mississippi National Guard's 155th Infantry Brigade and Louisiana's 256th Infantry Brigade, each with thousands of troops in Iraq. Blum said that to replace those units' command and control equipment, he dispatched personnel from Guard division headquarters from Kansas and Minnesota shortly after the storm struck. Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., whose waterfront home here was washed away in the storm, told reporters that the absence of the deployed Mississippi Guard units made it harder for local officials to coordinate their initial response. "What you lost was a lot of local knowledge," Taylor said, as well as equipment that could have been used in recovery operations.

"The best equipment went with them, for obvious reasons," especially communications equipment, he added. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said this week that the Pentagon has the ability to cope with both Katrina and the Iraq war, saying, "We can and will do both." Blum said that overall, the Iraq mission for Guard units across the nation is not limiting the military's ability to expand and continue the rescue and recovery operations in storm-battered states. "Iraq and other overseas commitments do not inhibit our ability to sustain this effort here

"The Coast Guard is by it's nature more mobile than fleets of SUVs and 18 wheelers. IIRC, the Air Force (out of Eglin) and Navy, off the Bataan, were on scene about the same time as the Coast Guard, and the National Guard helicopters. But all those were mostly doing rescue work, not bringing in supplies or ground forces. That was the plan."

Not really - one convoy of army or marine trucks can carry alot more relief than a helo. Mobility is not only speed but also mass .

Don't let lawyers make military decisions.

"How old are you anyway?"

Old enough to have voted for Reagan 3 times - but what does that have to do with Bush firing Brown?

The LA Guiard did not thrown what it could have into the situation. Sometimes overwheming force is not available and one must make do with what is at hand. Casualties would in fact has forced a quicker response from the responsible officials.

Those were primarily coast guard and National Guard. To this date, the military has NOT acted in a law enforcement manner. The regular military got there Friday (24 hours after the meeting Bush had with Blanco in which she requested 24 hours to decide).

They would have been in there Thursday if she had been able to make up her mind on the spot.

"Those were primarily coast guard and National Guard."

Well if FEMA/Homeland sent in NG/ Army/Navy/Marine Helos, how do they justify waiting for permission for ground relief

FEMA/Homeland did NOT send in the National Guard. The National Guard can ONLY be sent in by the Governor. Coast Guard share a military/civilian status by statute.

Good grief, I'm tired of arguing with you. Go take a civics course and enlighten yourself. Basically I'm tired of trying to teach you what you should have learned in the 8th grade.

"FEMA/Homeland did NOT send in the National Guard. "

The article states that the NG Helos were doing rescues and I saw photos of Mareine Helos doing same. How did they get permission?

I never said the entire Fed govt failed - I do believe there are a couple lawyers that panicked and due to lack of experience in commmand situations, several days were lossed in getting aid. Bush and Cheney correctly replaced Brown with someone with command experience.

I also believe that the local and state effort failed in its entirety - especially with no apparent provisions to seal the breeched canals from Lake P - that is going to cost us many billions unnecessarily.

NG report to the Governor. What specific date did you see the Marines there. By chance would that be Friday? That's because President Bush went down there Thursday and had the face to face with Blanco and gave her an ulimatum. You notice that Friday morning active duty military arrived on scene full force. Apparently her answer was the one he wanted.

All Branches of the Militaryhave been doing helo rescues from day 1. I am not sure how long this "permission" issue is going to save Chertoff.

Flying 8- to 10-hour missions, the rescue teams must first fly about an hour and a half to get to the flooded city from Jackson. The rescue teams locate and retrieve the residents, drop them off at a collection point, and then circle around again looking for more. To double their range, the helicopters often refuel in air to spend as much time in the city as possible.

They weren't let into the city or the state. If you notice they were based in Jackson which is in Mississippi and they had to fly an hour and a half to get to the city. I imagine they got around the ruling because they didn't land in NO.
