"I hadn't heard they were confiscating guns."

Man, they're kicking in doors on un-damaged houses and confiscating any firearms found in the homes. If there's someone there they give them 15 minutes to pack up. I don't know if they are doing a thorough search or just looking around. Personally, I think this is turning into a big land grab. As our glorious leader says "Freedom is on the march".

1] As usual, the 'authorities' are running from armed bad guys and disarming those who have not threatened them.
2] I'll promise that there is no paper trail being built and when these weapons wind up being used on a liquor store in Cleveland some clueless bystander from LA will be getting a call from the cops.
3] Whatever legal action may be taken will have to be federal and federal law because louisiana follows civil law and not common (as used in 49 US states) and they'll pretend it is all quite legit.
4] Finally, it SHOULD be a land grab. The feds should declare all of NO permanently gone away and trade the citizens who owned land there a similar chunk of federal land anywhere else. (Lord knows the USG holds a whole bunch of land in a whole bunch of places - mostly not under water.)

And if there's not somebody there? Do they stop with the guns, or do they confiscate any valuables that they find in the home? How can anybody tell the difference between looters looting the home and cops looting the home if there aren't any witnesses?

Between the cops and the criminals, I doubt if there will be anything valuable left in any of the homes in New Orleans. Thieving bastards!

Good morning.
"Personally, I think this is turning into a big land grab."

Katrina has given TPTB in LA a perfect opportunity to get rid of the city's underclass. The refugees have been dumped on local economies around the nation and few will return.

I can see the bulldozers leveling much of the flooded areas and a much smaller city being built on the higher ground. The tourist attractions will be preserved, of course, and protected from future flooding, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the lower parts of the city turned into a "wetland" World Heritage site.

Remember when bill clinton was President, many of us feared that FEMA would be the tool the statists would use to steal our guns and our property?

There you go. The Airport will be opened 19 Sept to bring in baby doc nagin's good buddies to split up the spoils. SCOTUS blessed and rendered this kind of activity lawful.

"..is turning into a big land grab.." What a scary thought! Add to this the SCOTUS ruling on eminent domain and we're well on our way to socialism.

Everything associated with Guv. Blanco has the smell of the Clintons. Note she hired the former Clinton FEMA head to advise her. First the obstruction of help, then the blame on Bush, and now rather than focusing on the real problems such as getting people food water and shelter, and cleaning up the city, they are taking guns.

Does anyone doubt this is a test case experiment for Queen Hillary?

Land grab?
Abso-f-ing lutely (pardon my french).

Prediction-
Saw a story about several men who live in and are currently protecting the garden district. The police are going to "get them" when the media is not around.
Then the corrupt NOPD is going to go through there and take everything they want from EVERY house and NONE of those houses are flooded! The media won't report it because it doesn't want us to see what happens when the government disarms its citizens.
