Look, balance is the thing here-that's what promotes harmony. You have to be charitable, but you also have to be prepared. Kozak is lamenting the fact that many appeared unprepared. Which is true! And sad. They have been made truly mind numbed by the Brave New World mentality of the welfare state. I think, in consideration, Kozak articulates the soul of charity: God helps those who help themselves. There were plenty of people helping themselves to plasma tv's who could have benefited from Kozak's simple advice. It's axiomatic that we help the handicapped. They were not the ones looting, however. V's wife.
Girl! You got the spirit.
His point kinda gets lost in all that self-congratulations though.
Point I was making is that newer information appears to reveal a new unexpected level of need among the stragglers and the left behind.
Thus sitting around in your scivies in the ER is not all that admirable.
See? Mr V must be a very happy man!
They can't get their prescription filled, but manage to buy their cigarettes and beer just fine.
As a pharmacist, I see this all the time. Most of the time, they come through the drive-thru in a NEW SUV demanding to get all their prescriptions filled early because they are going on VACATION! Vacation from what? Cashing that government check over and over must be a lot of work. Going to a doctor or ER at least once a week on someone else's dime must also be strenuous. I've had mothers refuse to pay a $1 co-pay for a $100 antibiotic for their sick child- saying right in front of the sick child that they will just wait until it gets REALLY bad and then they can go to the ER and get it taken care of for free (meanwhile talking on their new camera phone). Anyone who feels sorry for these people is very naive, and in fact, are the reason it has gotten to the state it is in today.
Umm no. Not really. Very very few of these people had no means to leave the city. They might have had no place to go after they had left the city which is a totally different issue but judging by the flooded abandon cars, many had the means.
If this hypothetical person has learned anything from New Orleans, he's got several buddies prepositioned to surround and disarm the JBTs.
Great post. Great descriptive powers. I'm right there with you in the drive thru window. Wanta smack the next camera cell phone using freeloader in a brand new SUV (as long as it's not Mrs. V)
No Dear Lady Drugist, we were talking about the very poor left behinds in NO who were recieving Boy Scout lectures by these self congratulatory superior "He-men".
At the risk of "harmony" I kind said they were all a bunch a pencil-necked geeks...That did'nt promote much harmony just now.
If they are so helpless and unable to do anything then just how is it that they have survived to this point?
"If it takes you more than 15 minutes to evacuate, you're doing it wrong and are not sufficiently prepared."
Words to live by. Literally.
We had an F-3 tornado through here three weeks ago, then Katrina hit the Gulf. You can be darn sure I "fluffed up" my Emergency Kit! Added more canned goods, sealed two sleeping bags in an air-tight container and added fresh pet supplies and additional medical supplies.
Dear Cuddly Wuddly. Glad you asked. They have'nt. They are the victims of the gangs of criminal who were released from the New Orleans City Jail. They have been beaten, robbedand raped by these animals.
These wonderful freepers were saying that they should have been better prepared.
With what KY Jelly?
I mean according to you they were totally dependent little 2 year olds. How on earth did they manage to drop food into their wittle-bitty moufs if they were so uncapable?
You are so smart! That's the point.
Fact is while you were "hunting and pecking" your reply,
CBS News just reported that many of these victims have still not left new Orleans. See! That's the point.
I am not risking Harmony by making this stuff up.
So these little armchair -first responders on FR are even more ridiculous with their little lectures about being prepared.
They need to be prepared ...for reality.
Sic Semper Tyrannis
Grab and go is the name of the game. If one waits until: "When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout," you are in a world of shti.
CBS News just reported that many of these victims have still not left new Orleans.
Then they are not victims are they? Nor are they helpless. They have more faith in their ability to be competent adults and care for themselves then you do.
So that blows your little rant out of the water.
They need to be prepared ...for reality.
They are. You on the other hand are also prepared, to be an enabler.
PS I typed this real slow so you would understand it.
Dear Grizzily One: There is a distinct impression that you just blew into the room and started blurting obscenities with no clue as to what is being discussed.
Is that you Ducks?
I take all of it back. ..in the spirit of harmony.
I just read your posts. You are responding ...only the responses are sort of free association. Example: "feelings hurt"...wha? "Not refugees"...what? Just because you say they are'nt refugees?
Polar Bear: This is not a matter of feelings...it's more a matter of fact. Are they not worth our concern because they did'nt plan ahead to be raped and robbed? Or is it that they just count anyway you look at it?
Bartie wartie isn't interested in actually discussing anything. He's in full blown Moral Superiority Better Person Caring mode. Actual thought would hurt too much. Bartie the Wart thinks because he saw a homeless guy one time he's a real expert. Those of us who actually deal with lifes problems on a daily basis have a clue. Bartie needs to get one. Maybe when he graduates from high school a clue land on him.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
The fact you would argue against such wisdom does not reflect well on your ability to grasp simple tried and true concepts.
Anyone can prepare to some degree, if they dont its their fault.
"Laugh, but an inflatable raft in the attic might actually be a good idea."
Keep it in the house. Attic heat will ruin it in one season.
