And yet when it under the Clinton administration......
Hillary Clinton says FEMA was more effective when her husband was president. The victims of Hurricane Floyd might venture a different opinion, and it wasn't FEMA that kept supplies from the Superdome.
During a post-Katrina conference call with reporters, Sen. Clinton said, "Helping localities do what they needed to do to mitigate damage -- that philosophy governed FEMA during the Clinton administration. It obviously was rejected by this administration."
Does that mean Clinton's FEMA was the model of government efficiency and effectiveness? Or was it closer to the DMV and post office? Just ask the tens of thousands of people left stranded up and down the Eastern Seaboard by Hurricane Floyd in 1999.
"We're starting to move the trailers in," said then-FEMA director and current Hillary favorite James Lee Witt, nearly a month after Floyd first hit. "It's been so wet, it's been difficult to get things in there" -- an explanation that sounds familiar.
Witt was also a guest on Jesse Jackson's CNN show, "Both Sides Now," in Floyd's aftermath. Jackson complained then that "bridges are overwhelmed, levees are overwhelmed, whole towns underwater. ... (It's) an awesome scene of tragedy."
Gee, where have we heard that recently?
Many have called for the head of FEMA Director Mike Brown. But Bill Clinton's choice to be Southwest Regional FEMA director in 1993 was even less qualified, earning his job handling disaster recovery of a different sort.
Raymond "Buddy" Young, a former Arkansas state trooper, got his choice assignment after leading efforts to discredit other state troopers in the infamous Troopergate scandal. If a storm like Katrina struck the Big Easy back then, Young would've been in charge.
Former House Speaker Tip O'Neill used to say all politics is local. Forgotten in the Katrina disaster and its aftermath is that so is most law enforcement and disaster preparedness.
Why does Hillary think Houston's Astrodome was all set up to receive thousands of refugees? It was because Houston and Texas authorities planned for it to take thousands of refugees from Galveston, where a hurricane in 1900 killed 8,000 people.
Totally clueless about their duties were officials at Louisiana's -- not Washington's -- Homeland Security Department. They blocked a convoy of Red Cross trucks filled with water, food, blankets and hygiene items to the New Orleans Superdome after Katrina struck because it would have encouraged refugees to stay there.
The Red Cross Web site says: "The state Homeland Security Department had requested -- and continues to request -- that the American Red Cross not come back into New Orleans following the hurricane." The ARC was told its "presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city."
On Aug. 27, Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco was asked at a press conference what could be done to avert disaster. Her pathetic answer was, "We can pray hard that the intensity will weaken." That was Louisiana's disaster-recovery plan.
Speaking of hating blacks. Did you ever out your Dad for his KKK behavior during his tenure in the Senate? His oppositon the the 1964 Civil Rights record is in the book!
Hey Al most Americans hold you and Willy responsible for 9-11. Take that and chew on it, fathead.
Is this a trick question? Hillary! of course.
Floyd
Darn. I wish I had another chance to vote for Gore.
Run, Al...run! ;^D
Americans do not know how fortunate they are that Al Gore has not been the President for the terrorist attacks on 9/11 and also for the Iraq War. The only situation worst would be if Howard Dean were President.
Isn't it simply amazing how little environmentalists really know about the weather?
Thanks for the ping!
Great. Now Algore has invented disaster relief.
This is what I envisioned when I saw the title...what with the gasbag he is and all...
Maybe he can house some of the folks in his rundown rental property in 10-a see.
37 minutes and counting.
Hmmm. Let me think. Hmmmm. Wait...no...well...can I get back to you?
I will give the Dum Congress Vultures credit for being the first in line at the feeding frenzy. They are preening their ugly feathers this am that they managed to get a live victim (Brown) But the vultures insatiable appetite will not be quieted for long> They smell some more bodies on the east coast as another NATURAL disaster meanders in the Atlantic.
Then there are the Media Vultures, largest and most hungry is the NBC network and their vulture clan of "on-air" types. For TWO hours last night they bitched and complained about Brown,Bush, Chertof, had some Clinton Administration media whore on bitching and moaning about who did what when, and how wonderful she used to do her job. Ofcourse that was PRE 9-11.
And lets not forget the disgusting vultures of the print msm. The Houston KRON has been throwing off on Bush since Katrina hit. They had a story about how one of the volunteers for a mentally retarded young man wandering in the astro Dome. They have been desperately trying to find his family. AS are most of the people displaced in Houston. Does the Houston Kron with it's REEMS of paper lift a finger to help make a public list and try to help people find each other NOOOOOOOOOOO. The print vicious Maureen Dawdy articles, are offensive cartoons.
I hate to say this but I have almost reached the point where I don't give a rats ass about anything other than my family and my neighbors. Houston has taught me one giant lesson the past two weeks. Take care of yourself, your neighbors, and friends. Always keep an eye skyward because the vultures will always be there just waiting for you to faulter.
It reminds me of a scene I watched when I lived on Buffalo Bayou. This sweet little light blue bird was sitting in the grass, obviously a house bird, I started to walk to it to help it and swoop, just like that a hawk came down and picked it up, right in front of me. I screamed at the sight, and from no where, flying so fast I don't even know what it was came a bigger bird and hit the Hawk. It dropped the little blue bird, which flew off to a flock of waiting birds for safety.
Americans need to be that unknown bigger bird and swoop in and force the evil vulture Dumocrats and MSM to drop these survivors, so that the American flock can protect ourselves.
Great analogy.
Thank God this moron was not elected President.
Even the Bill Kristol of the Weekly Standard admits the Clinton-Gore administration would have avoided the Bush boys' mistakes after Katrina. We can only wish that Al Gore were serving his second term right now, so that our country could have avoided 9/11, Katrina's destruction of the Gulf Coast, the Iraq war, high unemployment, and other disasters of the GWB years.
