The behavior, seen in 11 fetuses, began as early as the 28th week of pregnancy. My sons were born at 28 weeks. They cried. Why is this a matter for study?????

I suppose it would have killed the author to say "baby".

You mentioned your son born prematurely and I couldn't help but think of my friend's premature daughter, born at 24.5 weeks. That child withdrew from pain (And lord knows her young life has been full of it) and yet a study just recently released said that fetuses that gestational age are incapable of feeling pain. Things that make you go... HUH?

My Daughter was born two weeks ago, and she came out crying ;)
Not too surprised that it also happens inside the womb.

...a low-decibel noise played on the mother's abdomen... Maybe a Cynthia McKinney speech? No wonder the babies cried.
To: TimeLord
They have a heartbeat... that is enough proof for me.

Bless you mama. What a wonderful testimony. My children always thought that 10 months of pregnancy was good for them, not me.
Anyway, any woman who has been pregnant can attest to the fact that a loud noise will cause the baby to jump or twitch. It amazes me why these studies are done, it all just seems like common sense.

My Daughter was born two weeks agoCongratulations! Happy news amid so much sadness lately.

I'm sorry to say that the ultrasound showed you have a fussy fetus that would probably have been colicky if carried to term. Better luck on your next pregnancy.

But I thought the only hunk of tissue that cried a lot was my mother-in-law.
To: TimeLord
"Fetuses showed a "startle" response to the noise, along with deep inhalations and exhalations, an open mouth and a "quivering" chin -- all signs of crying."I am a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and I still don't understand how it all works. I had always assumed there would be no breathing through the mouth or nose until birth as it would seem to me sucking in the amniotic fluid into their lungs would not be so good. In fact at birth they are quick to syringe out their mouths of any fluid.
But what do I know.

Who cares - Bush let blacks die needlessly in New Orleans, so why not let defenseless babies be murdered because mommy can't take responsibility for getting drunk at a bar and having sex with some guy at 4am.
IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT.
