I fully agree. I was already riled up at him over his bill that he is pushing to leave dissemination of weather information to the public up to private firms. Now this loser claims that the NHC did an insufficient job when it comes to Katrina. The three day forecast track for Katrina was dead on. Mayfield calls the governor and the mayor up at their homes and begs them to evacutate N.O. WTF Santorum?
Awfully funny that AccuWeather has bottled up a lot of their stuff on their "AccuWeather Professional" (pay) site. Wonder if they had a heads up on this bill?
Santorum is being criminally & deliberately stupid...and I'd like to know why. I live on the Gulf Coast...I actually have the NHC listed as a "favorite" on my browser... Their storm tracks are on the mark. They also show all the various computer models that their data is derived from. They were completely on top of Katrina. The only thing that they did not expect was for the storm to curve downward to the southwest as it crossed Florida (statistically about a 1 in a hundred track). Once Katrina headed into the Gulf... New Orleans was shown in it's probable path. My personal opinion is that neither the Mayor nor the Governor wanted to lose tourist dollars so delayed calling for a mandatory evacuation. And the Governor had called the former FEMA person in...just what was he advising her to do?
And I hate the ACCU weather tv personalities...they spend way too much time telling people how great they are (not unlike Geraldo...I knew things were under control at the Convention Center if Gerald was broadcasting from there...funny how he arrived just with the first military units that his empassioned tv pleas summoned...it does take a bit longer than that to deploy). I like the Weather Channel & Jim Cantore...imagine, actually putting down a microphone & saving people...what a concept.
If Santorum manages to get people to believe his lie, he provides cover for Nagin and Blanco (who can then claim that they legitimately caught off guard).
Thanks a lot, Rick.
