I really wanted to see some pro ball last night, but I wasn't sitting through that crap to get to it.

Yet it was disconcerting to hear his name booed loudly by Patriots fans who evidently didn't appreciate his nationally televised comment the other night on a Hurricane Katrina benefit that President Bush ''doesn't care about black people." The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number.

I didn't find it "disconcerting" at all. I hoped the booing said, Hey, we're not all idiots in New England.

Good to see the folks in Boston have common sense.

Nashville star Trisha Yearwood ended the hour by singing the national anthem but the performance was marred by fireworks shot off during the line ''and the rockets' red glare."

Here IN Nashville, they've done this right from the beginning at Titans games. They shoot off VERY QUIET streaming fireworks during that line, and same the loud ones for team introductions and when the team scores a tough down.

I'm sick of all this pop-culturization of football. Heck, football was one of the few escapes from that garbage.

Why did Santana get to perform two songs last night from a flashily lit, midfield stage... while Green Day was shunted into a lonely balcony in back of an end zone?"

Ummm, 'cause Green Day sucks?

Maroon 5 came off vapidly (doing just one song, ''Harder to Breathe"), while West did one tune, ''Heard 'Em Say." Yet it was disconcerting to hear his name booed loudly by Patriots fans who evidently didn't appreciate his nationally televised comment the other night on a Hurricane Katrina benefit that President Bush ''doesn't care about black people." Boo-frickety-hoo, Mr. Morse. What's "disconcerting" for you is great news for me. West deserved it.

Perhaps the article should have been titled:

"Pats fans don't care about Kanye West"

or

"Bush bashers get no love in Boston"

Seeing the behavior of the NFL and the Pats fans is refreshing -- they know that this is crap, and they are reacting accordingly.

Why would any sports fan want to see a bunch has beens and drugged out fools? I'd love to go to a Pat's game but I wouldn't want to be forced to watch or even listen to that crap. Even though the Sox lost I was more than happy to watch them instead of that junk.

So the performers were Green Day, Kanye West, Trisha Yearwood, the Rolling Stones, Maroon 5, Michelle Branch and Ozzy Osbourne.

Of those seven, three have written nasty songs directed at the President, one of whom has verbally attacked the President, another one has openly campaigned against the President and for John Kerry, another one is an definite leftist, one may be a normal American and one is in his own drug-abuse induced haze.

Disconcerting? I guess we know where this writer stands. I want to say thanks to Patriot fans for booing.

Today's half time shows stink, except for college games with marching bands.

What are the politics of these pre-game shows all about? Why did Santana get to perform two songs last night from a flashily lit, midfield stage where everyone could see the band -- with cheerleaders drumming up excitement all around them -- while Green Day was shunted into a lonely balcony in back of an end zone? . . .

I didn't see it, but I doubt it was political. Green Day is punkish, their hit song is a downer, but they do appeal to younger white audiences, so you put em on the show, but don't feature them. Santana is kind of a slut; he will seemingly do ANY gig, which maybe lowers his cache a bit, but I think he is STILL riding the energy from that amazing Supernatural album. He's colorful, ethnic, happy, energetic. Much better music for the midfield hoopla. You gonna have cheerleaders dance to "Blvd of Broken Dreams?" Don't think so.

How could Steve Morse of the Boston Globe find Kanye West's comments about the President "disconcerting?" Does he agree with him? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, was there a pre-game show? I thought they were just vamping and shooting off drunken fireworks while they waited for the Sox game to end. Sorry I missed it...

Did Green Day drop the F-bomb when they sang "Boulevard of Broken Dreams?"

I'm amazed that the NFL was stupid enough to bring in that creep after his infantile tirade. But then again, its the NFL, so I shouldn't be surprised.

Actually, most of Massachusetts outside of Boston (Cambridge etc) is relatively conservative. It's those boneheads in the city that keep electing Kennedy and Kerry. Kerry was a starter at this years Boston Marathon (still wondering if he got another Purple Heart for using the starter's pistol) and HE got booed as well. Glad to see the fans at Gillette Stadium show their loyalties.
