NFL kickoff show falls short at Gillette (Kanye West LOUDLY Booed)
Boston Globe ^ | September 9, 2005 | Steve Morse

FOXBOROUGH -- Green Day played a long set when it headlined in front of 40,000-plus fans at Gillette Stadium last Saturday. Last night, the group did just one song and it was a safe choice: ''Boulevard of Broken Dreams," though it wasn't perhaps the most cheerful track to spice a pre-game show featuring the unveiling of another championship banner for the New England Patriots.

It also was curious to see Green Day wedged into a small, hideaway end-zone stage (Elton John was put on the same stage at last year's pre-game show but at least was allowed to do two songs). Which, of course, raises the question: What are the politics of these pre-game shows all about? Why did Santana get to perform two songs last night from a flashily lit, midfield stage where everyone could see the band -- with cheerleaders drumming up excitement all around them -- while Green Day was shunted into a lonely balcony in back of an end zone? . . .

I actually like Green Day, but I wouldn't buy their stuff or pay to see them.

Would it be a favre reach to say you're not a Green Day Backer?

How could Steve Morse of the Boston Globe find Kanye West's comments about the President "disconcerting?" Does he agree with him? Inquiring minds want to know.

He didn't find West's Bush-bashing disconcerting. He found the fans' booing West's Bush-bashing disconcerting. Big difference I would say.

Actually, most of Massachusetts outside of Boston (Cambridge etc) is relatively conservative. It's those boneheads in the city that keep electing Kennedy and Kerry. Kerry was a starter at this years Boston Marathon (still wondering if he got another Purple Heart for using the starter's pistol) and HE got booed as well. Glad to see the fans at Gillette Stadium show their loyalties.

Ditto.

Dad was a center at LSU and had his Packer career way laid by WWII.

The boos were thunderous and lasted for much of his number.

Evidence that people aren't as stupid as these left wing "entertainers".

I never heard of Green Day, but I suspect they were treated pporly because it must be a Black band and Bush made a few calls to make sure they were treated poorly.

I believe you but you probably only get one vote so it would have to be 2 or 3 to one to elect conservative candidates.

MA is the most corrupt state in the union. The libs rule this place with an iron fist. It's tough to survive.

I disagree, Louisiana is the most corrupt.

Boo-frickety-hoo, Mr. Morse. What's "disconcerting" for you is great news for me. West deserved it.

I'll second that!

The only song I'd heard of by them is "Time Of Your Life", which was the song that was played at the end of Seinfeld's series. It's a good song, but I wasn't gonna run out and buy it and give my $$ to a bunch of ultra-liberal eco-hugging grunge wannabees.
