FOXBOROUGH -- Green Day played a long set when it headlined in front of 40,000-plus fans at Gillette Stadium last Saturday. Last night, the group did just one song and it was a safe choice: ''Boulevard of Broken Dreams," though it wasn't perhaps the most cheerful track to spice a pre-game show featuring the unveiling of another championship banner for the New England Patriots.
It also was curious to see Green Day wedged into a small, hideaway end-zone stage (Elton John was put on the same stage at last year's pre-game show but at least was allowed to do two songs). Which, of course, raises the question: What are the politics of these pre-game shows all about? Why did Santana get to perform two songs last night from a flashily lit, midfield stage where everyone could see the band -- with cheerleaders drumming up excitement all around them -- while Green Day was shunted into a lonely balcony in back of an end zone? . . .

Ozzy's guitarist, Zakk Wylde, has been an outspoken proponent of the Iraq war.
You and me both. It's clear that garbage isn't for the fans in the stadium. They don't need to be entertained during half time. They can banter and argue back and forth or go get food during the down times. The garbage is to draw in the Gen X'ers who might be flipping the channels and see their favorite groups performing and stick with the show long enough to be advertised to a few dozen times.
We've taken to just videotaping many of the games we want to watch, then watching them later, FF'ing through the ads.
We turned the game on late thereby missing all the "fun." If I want music I'll watch MTV.
Just play football!!
"Just how LOUDLY was he booed?"
LOUD enough and LONG enough to basically wreck his song, so it seems from the article.
WAY TO GO BEANTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sick of all this pop-culturization of football. Heck, football was one of the few escapes from that garbage.
....
I agree. All the sacchrin saturating the grit of football is giing me a belly ache. Pretty soon football players will be viewed as sensitive diverse metrosexuals ie., girlie men. Yack
geez, I don't know about that... not AS GOOD maybe (althought the last one had some that came VERY close)
Abraxas was an incredible masterwork of art- hard to equal that every time.
Sort of like asking an athelete to set a new world record EVERY time he runs...
"...except for college games with marching bands."
But they never show them on TV, they always have those annoying half-time reports.
Did Green Day drop the F-bomb when they sang "Boulevard of Broken Dreams?"
If they had tried this in say at an opener in Dallas, I dare say that might have happened, at least with rotten vegs and fruit. West would certainly not have been heard for the whole song. Fans have free speech too, Kenye...so eat it!!
Memo to all entertainers: Shut the *%$# up and entertain. Keep your socialist stupidity to yourself.
Old addage goes: Keep your mouth shut and people will only guess you're stupid. Open your mouth and remove all doubt.
So? Everyone knows that Patriot fans hate blacks!

I know who Santana is, never heard of Greenday.
Wow, there's a blast from the past. My family hosted a couple UWP singers for a night or two as they did a cross-country tour in... 1982 was it?
Maybe UWP can open for Donny & Marie! After "I'm a little bit country" Charlie Daniels could come on stage, and after "I'm a little bit rock and roll" Boston could come on stage and sing Rock & Roll Band?
Ditto.
I don't remember that. They did bleep the Stones Start me up when Jagger sings "you make a dead man [rhymes with some]".
"WAY TO GO BEANTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
THE Patriots do NOT play in Boston! Most Pats fans are conservative. I live 2 miles from Gillette Stadium and my town voted for Bush.
Just outta curiosity. DIDN'T anyone here watch the pre- game show?? Hmmmmm...this guy West did more damage then we thought!! Interesting, more low rating for NFL, they outta stick to the FOX channel! This morning the TX state news channel was asking for volunteers to sign up because they were running short. I'm beginning to think people like the Jackass and West's are damaging the out pouring of compassion! Their "WOE IS ME BECAUSE I'M BLACK" mantra is getting stagnant. This is turning off people, particularly whites who were willing to go way out for these folks. The attacks against our president are not going over well with Americans. Last night was only proof of what Americans think about over all the blame Bush crap the presstitutes and HELLywood etc are spewing. It reminds us the black community still harbor hate and a chip on their shoulders!!
It's too bad West wasn't there in person. It would've been worth the price of admission to see him have to stop his "performance" because of the boos. It would've been more priceless to hear him then shout an expletive, or otherwise blow his cool during a national broadcast.
I'm sorry...
Pray to the almighty that you're never hit with a "Katrina".
