Katrina timeline in spreadsheet form needed.

Posted on 09/08/2005 8:59:54 PM PDT by IM2MAD

It occurs to me that we need a Katrina timeline in spreadsheet form to track who said/did what when. As I visualize it, it would have the first column with the date and subsequent column headings of something like White House, Nagin, Blanco, LA Nat Guard, US Nat Guard, FEMA and so on.

I think this would be useful in pointing out to everyone what actions were taken when and by whose authority. Perhaps even quote the LA disaster plan at the head of the chart to point it out to anyone who is not aware of it.

Unfortunately, I've not been keeping close enough track of the information such a "chart" might show. Furthermore, I'm not good at spreadsheets. Perhaps there's a saavy Freeper who would like to undertake such a project and make it available to either print off or download into a spreadsheet program like exell.

If this is possible, I think some of the displaced persons would be interested in seeing such a chart to help in determining who is most responsible for their dilemma. Might be good to have available to hand out at some anti-Bush rallies too.

This is my first post so be gentle.

Find the 'Search News/Activism' box, enter "timeline" and select "by title (date)". There are at least 3 threads on this very forum using that word in the title. It ain't a spreadsheet, but they've got all of the day so that you can certainly build one.

I had the same thought and I'm certain we're not alone. When it comes out, I'll have such fun asking people to point out specifically where President Bush faltered and watching them stammer and studder. First though, we should give them just a little more rope (just enough to hang themselves) :>)

I am sure some FReepers are already proactive on this and will be happy to share.

An excellent idea-----especially since the "good Gov Blanco" has in effect placed a "gag order" on the National Guard personnel regarding just when they were deployed to New Orleans. (--According to a ret. General on the O'Reilly Factor on FOX last night.)

I was hoping someone more capable would undertake the effort. (I'm spreadsheet challenged.) But we all could add suggestions as to what is significant and should be included. I think the fact that Nagin evacuated his family to Baton Rouge on the Friday before the hurricane hit is one example. (I read that somewhere on FR but don't have a link.) Delaying the evacuation order while checking with legal experts on his liability is another example. I think I've got that right. But as I said earlier, I didn't follow everything early on so don't quote me.

I am not spread sheet challenged, I like doing them actually.

I just need dates, times, levels of govt, or official, including the screaming police chief, and relief efforts of all agencies involved, or lack of effort accordingly.

Appreciate the kind words, and I am still referring people to the DSL. It is still a real eye-opener.

Here are two websites showing federal preparations PRIOR to the hurricane hitting:

The first is: "Troops ready to assist with Hurricane Katrina"

The second is:
"Homeland Security Prepping for Dangerous Hurricane Katrina"

An HTML table would be a heck of a lot more useful and accessible than a spreadsheet. Anyone with a web browser, even an ancient one, can read a table right over the web. Only people with Microsoft Office or similar (I'm guessing your were going to use Excel, without thinking) that download a spreadsheet can read it.
