[history]
Hundreds of survivors of Hurricane Katrina lined up Thursday outside the Reliant Center in Houston in hopes of getting $2,000 government debit cards, but there's confusion about who can get the cards and when.

All that practice in voting multiple times will really pay off here.

I understand the need for getting these folks Emergency cash...but $2000 seems like a lot at one time....Why $2000 and not $250 or $500 no and more next week..

I have one question. Since these cards have no name on them, what do you think is going to happen? I think you will see a lot of killing over these. At the very least a lot of robberies and assaults.

It is also my understanding, Red Cross is going to begin handing out 1500.00 debt cards to evacuee's.

I thought the Red Cross was providing these debit cards. Is the money coming from them or the government?
To: NormB
How many of these will end up in the hands of Non-Katrina victims??? I'm sure this will be a hot ticket for a lot of long time residents of Houston.
To: NormB
I hope to GOD that they have a way to (electronically)keep track of what they actually buy. It would be very interesting to see how our money is spent.

LOL! I had a big throw down just the other day with a well known FReeper. I'm a liberal because I don't take advantage of FEMA's generosity. Heck, I'll take a $2000 debit card any time, beats the heck out of driving to OKC and applying for a loan......oh wait, that wasn't an option. I guess debit cards are just for city dwellers.

From what I read earlier, this is very loose usage of the term "line up".

maybe not. you cannot buy cigarettes nor booze with the cards.
Well, wait, maybe you are right. There might be assaults on the government for not allowing them to buy these life sustaning vital essentials.

They are talking about it on the radio right now. Ron Magers from WLS tv in Chicago was voicing his concern on a radio talk show. If the MSM says it it must be true. I wouldn't doubt the government doing something moronic.

Yes, but what will they do next week, when that $2000 doesn't last?
I think we've seen that a lot of people who have lived their lives as dependents of the government do not have much ability to plan for the future.

Oh, and the funny part here is them lining up to get the debit cards.
Holy Sh@T we should have just offered the b@stards a $2000 gift card to evacuate in the first place, then they would have lined up to leave!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I could maybe see getting food stamps and perhaps vouchers for specific items, but $2,000 debit cards? Do we just have money to burn?

It would be very interesting to see how our money is spent. That would be intruding on their right to privacy and to screw the Government!
