I understand the need for getting these folks Emergency cash...but $2000 seems like a lot at one time....Why $2000 and not $250 or $500 no and more next week..

It is also my understanding, Red Cross is going to begin handing out 1500.00 debt cards to evacuee's.

Whether that is what they use it for in another story

Why $2000 and not $250 or $500 no and more next week..$2,000 is the most that any one family will receive. It is to enable them to buy gas, bus tickets, airplace tickets or to put a deposit down on an apartment or house to rent. They're not supposed to be able to spend that money and continue to stay in the shelters.
The evacuee population of the main 3 Houston shelters is reported to be down by 2/3's

but $2000 seems like a lot at one timeI know of a crackhead who received a $20,000 lump-sum payout from his mother's life insurance. Every penny was gone in less than a week. Every single penny.
