The Unsung Heroes of Katrina - Who Are They?

Hurricane Katrina killed an untold number of Americans.

It left hundreds of thousands homeless and has caused unspeakable suffering for those Americans living in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

Good will come from this terrible crisis.

Let us look to the good and remember those unsung heroes who have selflessly sacrificed their own lives, fortunes, and safety to come to the aid and resuce of those in peril.

God bless America.

The linemen working 20 hours a day around the clock under extremely dangerous conditions and who rushed in to these disaster areas from as far away as New Jersey with nothing but the clothes on their backs and their own equipment are the ones I want to recognize.

The relief people are doing their job. Not sure if they are hero's. You paid for it (for the most part).

I don't think there are many true hero's in this whole thing.

Just assholes, non-assholes, and people who actually tried to help.

Good is already happening. Material things are not as important than human life - some are realizing that for the first time ... . Some are able to see that liberals are wrong with their race bating. MANY white people are helping unlike their mayor who let them down. Many are starting to see that gender doesn't matter when it comes to incompetence - the governor.

Some now realize that there is something bigger than them who is in control - God. Christian churches are pitching in and changing lives as well as groups like the Salvation Army. Tragedy seems to sober people up and smart ones get to know God or deepen their relationship with Christ.

I can assure you those who lost loved ones are not asking people coming to their rescue if they are a Republican or a Democrat.

I beleive that happy2bme is correct, good will come from this. Though, it may take a while. The thing is, the people who did die are not being honored bye there neibores at all! Their neibores are instead dis-honoring them, bye shooting at air enlisted men and weman trying to help. In my eyes it's a disgrace to see this occuring. The good that will come of all this, is that the entire country, is pulling together to help these people. I think it's a great thing that this country is doing for them right now. Yet, they don't see it. yes, it took a while for all of this to get roling, but they have no rite to complaine to us. Yeah, so we took a while getting them out. SO WHAT!!! At least they got out alive.

After days of nearly sleepless nights guarding his neighborhood in Algiers, New Orleanian Vinnie Pervel gets some rest. Pervel and neighbors have heard gunfire throughout their neighborhood and built up an arsenal donated by out-of-town neighbors.

After staying up protecting their neighborhood from looters, Algier's Point resident Gareth Stubbs gets some sleep next to an arsenal of guns. The men slept outdoors on a balcony and heard gunfire on their streets every night following the storm.

Sue Davis of Cairo is asking anyone and everyone to pray for the people that Hurricane Katrina has left stranded, hungry, thirsty and homeless. Her brother is one of them but he is alive and working as hard as he can to keep others alive as well.

Tom "Gator" Seefeldt, Davis' brother, lives in Biloxi, Mississippi. He is a 25 year veteran of the Navy, where he served as a SEAL, he is a veteran of Vietnam, has served in Somalia and Africa and has even spent time hunting alligators (hence the nickname) for the government. And although he's seen active combat and the terrible side of the human condition through his many years of work as a SEAL, when he got a call out to his sister two days ago, he said the devastation to his area was the worst he has ever seen.

Davis said Gator has been busy rescuing as many people as he can; when she spoke to him last, he had taken over 50 people into his home to give them food and shelter. He has pulled almost that many dead bodies out of the water and taken them to I-90, where he told Davis there were about 800 corpses lined up along the road for rescue workers to retrieve. It was 102 degrees when Davis got to speak to her brother and the mosquitoes and flies were eating the survivors alive.

David said it is God that put him there, God that helped his well-stocked property to be saved. And she is asking everyone she can to put him on their prayer lists, stop by her business at Daylight Diner to pray, or just plain pray whenever they can so he can help as many people as possible get to safety.

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, medicine, and shelter. We need help taking care of their pets, too.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you. Believe me, there are a lot of organizations who need your help.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas but I'm adding more every night. My wife was down at Reunion Arena in Dallas Tuesday handing out care packages and spiritually ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer. She says that the situation is tragic and that there's a lot of work to be done. There are so many children who don't know where their parents are or even if their parents are still alive.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would appreciate it if you would get the word out.

I think that is a given ... I just hope AFTER this is all over they remember WHO is responsible and their party - the MAYOR, the GOVERNOR and years of being put down. When they see Republican oriented areas ... I hope this inspires them to sign up instead of voting for poverty pimps!
