Great to find another who spent time in AK. I have been completely down the thousand miles of the Chain on the the university of AK research vessel Acona, damned thing could roll and yaw in a heavy dew. No ballast and they had cut off the stabilizer fins to achieve a couple knots more speed. The Bering sea was a frightening and nightmarish hell during a storm we went through. I remember it had one of the first GPS systems which was closely guarded as to access.

Dutch Harbor/UnAlaska with the old Russian orthodox churches and talking to long time residents about the Japanese attacks there was fascinating. Local watering hole was named the Elbow Room, and it was not called that on a whim. :>) Cold Harbor was just YUK.

What you paint is credible, no doubt. I think however if the grabbers do try to make it an issue, I would hope that a smart Congress critter will line up 100 people who were able to successfully defend themselves or their property during the crisis.

While I understand why they are suspending the second amendment for the purpose of evacuation, I would hope that it is something connected with the temporary imposition of martial law down there.

Do you know/recall if Mississippi and Alabama have done the same thing? I don't believe I've heard either way.

"... Also, the finish on the receiver does NOT even come close to matching the bluing on the dust cover, barrel, sight block, gas block, and front sight block. In addition to not matching them, it's light, uneven, and CRUDE."

Yeah, that about describes a pre-'89 stamped Polytech AKS alright. The very VERY first models had a tube folding stock like a Galil, but the best ones had the red bakelite folder with the tiny cleaning kit.

I found a picture of one here that someone's foolishly added an aftermarket vortex hider to. Look quick, because this picture won't be staying:

Polytech AK47S Side folder

That fellow sleeping in the picture is likely the original owner who bought it in about 1986.

Hey, The whitesocks and no seeums were the worst for us. Even by spraying yourself with Raid yard & garden insecticide, it was as nectar to them critters.

One of the best natural insect repellents was cucumber weed juice, weed was also great in salads and later in the summer produced those great watermelon berries.

Ever make any fire weed honey? I scoffed when first told about it, but it was delicious if made right. Wife had 10 recipes for making it.

I don't know, but I'd be surprised if they've dropped the other shoe so quickly.

What I'm expecting is a replay of how they handled things in NOLA, but on a macro scale. Put refugees in pressure cooker, apply heat, let it build up pressure, then wait while it brews. When it's about to blow (or shortly thereafter), roll in with "the solution" to "the problem".

Classic hegelian gambit. Create problem, provide solution, arrive at desired goal (desired goal being intense consolidation of power in hands of the state, combined with "the people" WILLINGLY (in most cases) relinquishing their righs, for the vain promise of "security").

It'll take a while (a short while, most likely) for the various "refugee populations" to "cook" to the stage where things are at the boiling point. When that happens, "the solution" will be to "protect" the host populations by imposing some measure of martial law.

And people will gladly embrace it. As a culture, we've gotten to the place where we can be played like a fiddle.
