BATON ROUGE, La. -- Gun sales across the South boomed after the first reports surfaced of armed looters roaming the streets of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. And images of shots being fired at relief workers only elevated fears in some communities.
Now, as hundreds of thousands of people displaced from their homes are being resettled, gun store owners say they're being flooded by a demand for guns--particularly in Southern states and others where many of the hurricane victims are being relocated.
Mostly, they say, the demand is being fueled by "good people" wanting to protect their families and property. That includes some who might not otherwise purchase such weapons, they add.

In my 20's I used to wear guns out. I practice mentally a lot and find it is really a good thing. I used to shoot competition but don't have the time anymore. I learned that if you go to the range and shoot wisely, only a few rounds are needed.
Dude, already got 'em.
Could either over-arm my entire family or one apiece for most of the neighbors.
I was making a joke about Volvo drivers and gun racks.
I'd discourage you from buying something you've never punched holes in paper with first.
Peraonally, I'd go for something newer, but if you're stuck on it--
Be careful and PLEASE have it checked out by a reliable gunsmith BEFORE you buy it.
Same goes for ANY used firearm.
A firearm that hasn't been properly cared for can kill or injure you in more ways than I can count.
"Hey, enough with the Volvo-driving comments. We have two old Volvos, been driving Volvos for 25 years and they have served us well. "
Please, please - plaster every square inch of the backs of your Volvos with hard core conservative bumperstickers to annoy the liberals!
i'm getting close to having worn out my first one- been over working my .357. i usually only shoot a few rounds per gun, except .22- that's usually a couple hundred.
Naah. Every time I get enough of the garage cleaned out to make room for one, the wife and kids fill it up with crap they'll never use again.
You got that right. I'm soon going to have store my tool chests and table saw outside!
I'll check them out. But I'm not really in the market right now. Of course that changes quickly.
Be careful.
Go and check 18 USC 922 and make sure a drum mag doesn't turn your 12 into a Destructive Device.
Don't need that kind of trouble.
:-)
Good point...which case you buy a couple and prep and bury them until such a time that they are required. :-)
I was saving for something nice in 7.62x51 and almost had enough when there on the wall of a gun shop on the other side of town was a used Stoner SR-15 for half what I had seen a new one going for the week before in a shop on my side of town.
I looked it over, borrowed a bore scope, looked some more and exclaimed, "Why I do believe that the good Lord in-tends for me to purchase this rifle!".
And so I did.
That's what I like about auto loaders. Barrels are easy to replace. Revolvers are good gun smith or factory jobs.
Move the tool chest into the living room, put a rubber mat on top, and- presto! TV stand.
Move the table saw into the bedroom, throw a dropcloth over it and- presto! Nightstand.
Perhaps I should have my own cable show...
eh.. its just a rossi. replacement will be a super blackhawk. the heavier SA revolver, running lower pressures shouldn't be as easy to destroy :)
my autos should last a good bit tho, i don't shoot either my .45 or my .38super enough.
Nice site. Throwing link away. Wife always gets more diamonds when I buy firearms.
But if they're attached to a shotgun, I'm not so sure.
Once again, go and Read The US Code. Title 18 Section 922.
LOL. I have made some very similar purchases over the years.
Yeah...I do that with a LOT of sites too. :-)
I had a Super Blackhawk but gave it to my son for his 21st Birthday.
