Celebrities on Katrina You paid to hear this!

Edited on 09/07/2005 11:33:09 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

The next time you go to the movies/concert or buy a cd/dvd take a moment to consider if you really should just skip the middle man and hand your money straight to your favorite liberal organization. I don't know about you, but I'm ready to say enough is enough. There are some that will accuse me of blacklisting or being Un-American. They will say that everyone has the right to express their political opinions and they shouldn't be penalized because they are a celebrity. Well, I've decided that I shouldn't be penalized BECAUSE they are a celebrity.

A long time ago I told myself I will never pay my money to support Barbara Streisand and Jane Fonda. I've remained faithful to that pledge. But, if I'm being truthful to myself, that was no big hardship. I've made excuses not to carry my personal campaign forward. I want to see that blockbuster movie that everyone is talking about. I want to buy that CD, so I can listen to that rock song I like. So, I continue to hand my money over to celebrities that use their spotlight as a platform to spread liberal messages that are usually radically counter to my beliefs.

I'm not going to be hard-nosed about this. I don't care if I find out a celebrity is a liberal. I don't care if they show up at every liberal fundraiser and political convention. I would still like to go see SOME movies and listen to SOME rock music. What matters to me is what they say when they have a camera stuck in their face or a reporter writing down the words of wisdom they want to convey to their fans.

I know these celebrities won't even feel the pinch when they don't benefit from my entertainment budget. It's just time that I stand up and put my money where MY mouth is and quit giving it to support a liberal's mouth.

--- Pierce Brosnan ---

"This man called President Bush has a lot to answer for," the former James Bond actor told reporters Saturday. "I don't know if this man is really taking care of America. This government has been shameful."

Link

--- Sean Penn ---

"There are people dying and (the US government are) not putting the ******* boats in the water, I think that`s criminal negligence.

"I don`t think anybody ever anticipated the criminal negligence of the Bush administration in this situation."

Link

--- Kanye West ---

"They've given them permission to go down and shoot us."

"George Bush doesn't care about black people,"

Link

--- Matt Damon ---

"I'm not a fan of (President Bush), so I let out a big cheer (over West's comments). So this guy with his moment on live TV made a statement that hopefully, now Bush will come out and address (the issue)."

--- David Banner ---

"I'm glad Kanye said what he said on NBC," Banner says in the upcoming issue of Ozone magazine. "The President never gave a damn about black folks."

Link

--- Ray Davies, lead singer of the Kinks ---

Davies branded Mr Bush "an over-burdened, out-of-touch president" in an article in The Times newspaper, and complained that someone should have acted sooner.

"Why didn't the people who are supposed to be experts on this stuff react sooner? The problem we all know by now is money. Budgets. America's preoccupation with wars overseas. Nobody cares about the poor. Etc, etc," he said.

"It was clear to me ... that something disastrous was on the cards."

Link

--- Celine Dion ---

"I open (sic) the television, there's people still there, waiting to be rescued, and for me it's not acceptable.

"I know there's reasons for it, I'm sorry to say, I'm being rude, but I don't want to hear those reasons."

Dion criticised authorities for arresting looters in New Orleans, Louisiana, saying they should make rescuing the stranded victims a priority.

She said: "Oh, they're stealing 20 pair of jeans or they're stealing television sets. Who cares? They're not going to go too far with it. Maybe those people are so poor, some of the people who do that they're so poor they've never touched anything in their lives. Let them touch those things for once."

"How come it's so easy to send planes in another country to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives? We need to be there right now to rescue the rest of the people."

Good job nonetheless. I see that the AM linked you to HTML Sandbox. That's how I learned. Give it some time, we'll help. Also, for more resources, when you see a Browse window, key in "HTML". You'll get lots of help threads, and comments on those threads.

Welcome to FR, and happy posting.

They all have too much time on their hands, rich and pampered self-aborbed ego-maniacal fruitloops. Thanks for the post, most of these are on my Holly weird Jerks List. Will add the new ones as I want to make sure not to inadvertently watch, listen or in any way contribute to their bankrolls.

Well, it is not a sacrifice you are talking about, actually quite the opposite: you will do yourself a favor by saving some money on not patronizing baboonery, and would be able to put the saved money to a better use, for example on pursuing interesting hobbies, like investing, buying and reading books, or maybe shooting sports. I've been religiously avoiding the movies for the last 25+ years, and as for contemporary "music", I consider it a baboonic cacophony and avoid it with equal zeal [I don't even have a TV]. And I most emphatically would not consider it a cultural deprivation, for the very notion of culture is diametrically opposite to what passes for "pop culture" in all its forms.

For this very reason, I stopped purchasing movie tickets or even renting any long ago. I also don't purchase any CDs any longer, unless I know the artist supports traditional conservative values.

Personally, I'm fed up with Hollyweird types slamming what I hold dear.

I don't need those that make their outrageous livings by fantasy to tell me what is right, because they acted in a movie.

On top of that, please name any that have opened up their mansions to the displaced people of Hurricane Katrina, like they would like the rest of us to do.

This is nothing new on FR or in America. Hollywood is going broke.

A little bit tongue in cheek but really we should pressure organized sports to shape up.

As for downloading, honestly, there hasn't been anything I'd like to see for a few years now. Besides, my aging Comcrap wouldn't handle it all ;)

Breaks my heart about Ray Davies. Thought he had better sense than that.

Just one more reason my fave artists these days are all dead. Charlie Parker and Ernest Tubb keep their mouths shut.
