In the city of New Orleans alone, more than 100,000 of the city's residents described themselves as disabled in a recent U.S. census

Isn't that 20% of the population? That seems high.

Disabled, as in "I can't lift anything, I have a bad attitude"?

CNN is reporting that they found 30 bodies in an old folks home.

That is simply criminal.

Unbelieveable.

Finally, the truth is beginning to get out in the MSM. The truth will out. And when it does, Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco will be revealed as incompetents. It will have the fringe benefit of showing that folks like Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean.

When it's over and the dead are counted, how many will rest on the shoulders of Mayor Nagin and others?

" Welfare scam?"

That's a good guess.

I once was working a job that had interaction with groups of people who fit the same sort of description. Countless people were on welfare / social security, and their disability ranged from "she ain't right" to "he hears voices". Basically, whatever they could sell to the people screening their social security applications.

It's kind of sad - generations of wards of the welfare state passing along the only job skill they've ever known - getting free money from uncle sugar. Think of all the wasted potential that sits in cities like that - all because for decades liberals have been selling them the same "blame whitey" / "you're disenfranchised" / "you don't need a father for your babies when you've got a welfare check" mentality.

How many doctors, engineers, researchers - almost anything - have been lost to the mentality of "barely surviving by living off the government"?

102,122, actually. 23.2% of the population 5 and older.

It's not out of line. Roughly 1 out of 5 (19.3%) Americans 5 and older nationwide claim a disability, according to the Census.

Tami Frazier, a spokeswoman for Mayor C. Ray Nagin, currently working out of Houston, refused to comment on direct questions this week or to answer several written questions sent via e-mail. She cited the need to focus on rescuing citizens and recovering bodies.

The state of Louisiana provided shelter in Baton Rouge and five other cities for a total of about 1,000.

I betcha dollars to donuts that this is a primary reason why buses were not used to ferry the carless out of NOLA, they never had agreed on a plan to set up shelters, other than some virtually meaningless document required for fed funding. Further, I bet one huge reason for that was that cities around the state balked at taking in all the 'problem demographics' from NOLA.

I doubt they had many bus drivers available on 8/28. They were probably all skedaddling with the crooked cops and politicians.

"But Kris Wartelle, spokeswoman for the attorney general of Louisiana, said state law clearly gives the mayor the authority to "direct and compel the evacuation of all or part of the population from any stricken or threatened area."

But blank Blanco said today that was her decision to make, not the NO mayor's??

"They're not confused about it. He had the authority to do it," Wartelle said."

I damn well bet he is after she counter ordered, his order to evacuate those remaining.

I am so confused with LA and NO political wrangling my head is spinning. Jeeze, no wonder Bush could do nothing with these two jerkoffs engaging in naught but infighting while people died, and are dying yet.

Driving a bus is not rocket science. Even the 19 year old kid could do it and he'd never driven a bus in his life.
