Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 10:59 p.m. EDT Gov. Blanco, Mayor Nagin at Each Others Throats

Open warfare appears to have broken out between Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, with Blanco challenging on Wednesday Nagin's authority to order a mandatory citywide evacuation.

The mayor certainly has ordered that, but the governor, and that would be me, will have to enforce it or implement it," Gov. Blanco told the Fox News Channel.

Story Continues Below

The Louisiana Democrat said she wanted more time to determine "whether or not there's an absolute justification for that," saying she feared any forced evacuation could put people at risk for disease. "We wouldn't want the next wave of people getting ill and perhaps dying from terrible diseases, and that is a big concern," Blanco told Fox, adding, "We want definite information. We don't need to put more grief on people."

Gov. Blanco's decision to pull the rug out from under Mayor Nagin follows by two days Nagin's account to CNN, where he blamed the governor for delaying federal rescue efforts last Friday.

"I was ready to move today. The governor said she needed 24 hours to make a decision," he complained.

Reacting to the governor's footdragging, Nagin lamented: "It would have been great if we could have . . . told the world that we had this all worked out."

"It didn't happen, and more people died," he added.

Blanco is an idiot. If they don't evacuate the people they will die. If they do evacuate them, they can run medical tests on them. Why the delay?

They're both incompetent.

Mayor Naggin and his "mosquitoes biting dead people" quote is a bit off, isn't it? Are not mosquitoes attracted to what they end up biting by respiration gasses? Last I knew, dead people are not releasing any respiration gasses...and if that water is as nasty as they say, how can the mosquito larvae survive in it?

Blanco strikes me as having excellent potential to be a top-notch pre-school teacher.

Funny how the dementacrats eat their own isn't it? In the meantime people are getting sick and continuing to die. Fox reported tonight that the CDC has labelled the floodwater in and around NOLA as toxic and extremely dangerous. It's probably no worse that what flows through the streets of that town during Mardi Gras

Kinda reminds me of the Pelosi/Ford disturbance. Another case of the white woman keepin' the black man down.

So Gov Blank-o is saying she wants to to think about (aka, consulting her lawyer) forcing the evacuation of NO because the people who forcibly evacuate may be get a disease? Like, people are at less risk of getting a disease if they stay in filthy infested NO without drinking water or sewage?

I am confused...but it sounds like the Governor is stuck on stupid. And this relationship between the Governor and the Mayor is starting to sound like the Jerry Springer Show.

Forced evacuation causing disease? This woman is beyond stupid, she's got weird ideas about disease causing organisms.

Hello, guv, it's not evacuating them that's going to put them at risk for disease.

(actually, I think the racist twit is worried that the evacuees might already be diseased and spread it to other parts of the state, but can't find a polite way to say it, because it's nasty and she knows it).

My understanding is that mosquitoes are attracted to CO2. I don't know if a dead body would emit it, but sinkspur might know.

The minute she tries some clown will launch a law suit and get a hold placed on the evacuation, as long as you are in your home bothering no one doing nothing illegal they can't force you to leave.

Eminent Domain, sorry legal action must take place, the only way that you could be legally moved is if the president declared a state of insurrection, ain't going to do that and the ACLU will win.

How would you like that a lawsuit for trying to save someones life, that was what nagin was afraid of, getting sued because he evacuated the town and people loose business cause they were gone and it had been a level two or three storm.

Amusing the legal knots we twist ourselves into.

LOL! You are so right. Why does this woman always need so much time in a crisis to mull things over and analyze them? She has had a week already FCOL.

I was listening to KLIF here in Dallas this morning, and Darrel Ankarlo was interviewing an Israeli toxicologist on what it is in the water. Basically the germs incubate for about a week before the symptoms start showing up, those people in the shelters could be walking time bombs.

They used to kill mosquitoes by pumping oil into the swamp. Mayor Nagin is too emotional to be in charge of anything.

Here's her thought process,

"Gov Blanco, would you care for soup or salad with your entree?"

"I have to study the ramifications of taking the soup over the salad. I'll consult with my Democratic handlers in Washington and let you know in 24 hours. If I choose incorrectly, I'll blame the chef!"

>>>My understanding is that mosquitoes are attracted to CO2.

That is my understanding as well. And perhaps an entomologist in the crowd can chime in on the ability of mosquito larvae to survive in the chemical soup...
