Was Katrina Looting Justified? -poverity makes it OK, cuz we are looting in Iraq (I am pissed now)
FOX News ^ | September 6, 2005 | Hannity & Colmes

DR. BOYCE WATKINS, AUTHOR AND PROFESSOR: Well, they're very different. But I want to ask you, have you ever really been to New Orleans (search) and really seen the poverty that people live under? New Orleans resets the definition of what it means to be poor. I went to about 25 different cities this year, promoting college attendance for inner city students. And New Orleans led the nation in terms of being the worst educational system in...

- - -

WATKINS: Well, if you define looting as going into someone else's turf and taking something that doesn't belong to you, you can argue that we're looting in Iraq right now.

- - -

WATKINS: . . .

I mean, this city was left in a state of emergency with no federal support whatsoever. Nobody came in to protect these people. And you're worried about shooting the looters before you're worried about feeding the looters?

And so maybe if you loot on a full stomach, maybe that's a problem. But the reality is that there are lots of things going on in America. And...

- - -

SEAN HANNITY, CO-HOST: Boyce, I want to ask you a question here. There was an AP article that quoted a guy who said, "It's an opportunity to get back at society," meaning the looting. Do you agree with that?

WATKINS: Yes, absolutely. You have a lot of people that are very frustrated. And the thing is that you have them in poverty, and they really don't have a way out.

- - -

WATKINS: You need to talk about the issues. The fact is that you're choosing one segment of society to kick around. You've got looters with Enron (search). You've got looters in Iraq. Focus on that. Talk about that.

I think for me the looting I saw, really turned the corner on how I viewed this natural disaster. I watched folks who were caught on TV, walking away with items, clearly not theirs, do not ask me how I know, I just know. They walked with their heads down, perhaps knowing what they were doing was wrong or not wanting to get caught in the future. It was a pathetic scene. When one was stopped, they had an entitlement in their voices. Worse not one said thank you, I will do for you later. It was about me, me and me.

Then I see this punk on TV last night, saying that poverty created these types of individuals. That their behavior was acceptable. He never once answered Hannity's remarks not a one. Just spewed back talking points. Frankly his only reason for being on TV, to bash Bush and to point out the war is bad.

Thanks for allowing me to vent. I have so much to vent about and I think my beloved can take so much. It is tough not knowing where family is. I am sure it is my stress looking at each of the survivor boards. Looking at those that are safe. Cross checking other data bases.

A generous Freeper is going to pursue the ham radio aspect of located them. I am open to all ideas.

Should I have to go down to find them and retrieve them, I will take items and who knows pick up items on the way down to give to those in need and hopefully bring back my family to our home.

Again, beloved has volunteered to go and assist, he is one great guy and soldier.

Who is this guy? Google found ...

http://www.atlasbooks.com/marktplc/01366.htm

Dr. Boyce Watkins earned BA and BS degrees from The University of Kentucky with a nearly perfect GPA and a triple major in Finance, Economics and Business Management. He then earned a Masters Degree in Mathematical Statistics and a Doctorate in Finance from The Ohio State University. He now teaches Finance at Syracuse University, where he is the first African-American faculty member in the history of the Department of Finance. He is the founder of The Black Financial Economists Association, and the Director of the Step Up and Go to College Tour, which travels across the nation guiding young people toward college success.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste ... on Bush-bashing, race-baiting, and justification of immoral behavior of the underclass.

It's crazy. Apologists sometimes contort themselves in the strangest positions to try to match reality to their world view.

"It was a pathetic scene. When one was stopped, they had an entitlement in their voices. Worse not one said thank you, I will do for you later. It was about me, me and me."

Well, our government is handing each of them $2000 debit cards.

Many will weasle multiple cards, of course, and others will murder others to steal their cards from them.

I do not know, but you can check here (top middle) they have a video of the event from last night. I suspect you can go to Sean's radio website to find out who his guests were today.

I had said to my beloved that some may never have had a credit / debit card. Others probably stole them. I know I am harsh but I just do not want to seen the behavior from New Orleans affect the cities/states that are hosting them.

Just wait until some feel they deserve the same as those who died on 9/11. What an uproar that would be.

Subtly racist values were defeated at AWARE (Alliance Working to Achieve Racial Equality) meeting

Boyce Watkins
Staff Columnist

"Because they don't understand history, most Americans have trouble seeing the white supremacist roots of modern-day conservatism."

"I would be interested to know which Republican candidate is endorsed by the Michigan Militia, The White Patriot Party, the Christian Identity, The Order and other white supremacist groups."

"When it comes to affirmative action, immigration, crime, etc., there is a strong correlation between the beliefs of these kinds of groups and those of conservative Republicans."

"The educated, eloquent people at the meeting are exactly what we need to fight the war against ignorance and racism in America."

"They understand that the standard, mass-regurgitated Conservative Republican arguments hold as much water as a broken glass."

"intellectuals at the meeting had an easy task: to prove that America is a racist society,"

Disgusting excuse for humanity.

As I went through high school, I kept journals, I have kept them for the last 20 years. It is something to write and read them down the road. There was a time folks really thought I should pursue a writing career. With years, I have lost all my educational skills as to the right way to convey my thoughts.

Which is why I usually give beloved my writings for his review. This time I went ahead and posted, without his critical eye.

As always thank you for the comment, Chena.

Watkins should hit the books

Josh Smith
electrical engineering senior

To the editor:

I am writing in response to Mr. Boyce Watkins' article about the SGA. The article illustrated his obvious discontent for SGA. I will acknowledge the fact that our SGA doesn't seem to be acting in our best interest. However, to call it racist would be a major injustice. I'm not so naive to think that racism doesn't exist on campus. I am disgusted with the way Mr. Watkins blows everything way out of proportion.

I can remain silent no longer. If an event has a hint of anything close to what some might view as racism, all hell breaks loose. Never mind that SGA decided not to give funding to Promise Keepers. Does this mean SGA is a group of atheists? NO!

You should be happy that the vote went through at all. This was a request for funds from a special interest group taking part in an event no where near campus which would in no way benefit the majority of the student body. This is why the vote was so close. Not because SGA is full of racists.

Mr. Watkins, do us all a favor and go back to doing your math homework.

You're putting together a team of some sort? It seems you've crossed threads with your discussion.

Yeah, I share your disgust with people who plead "poverty" to excuse their bad deeds. In fact, our so-called "poor" people in the U.S. are very wealthy by any world standard -- they're in the top 20% to 30% of the world's population. But any fair standard, "affluent" is a better adjective than "poor."

When will Boyce wake up?

Jason McKenney
computer science junior

To the editor:

How long will it be before poor Boyce Watkins realizes what kind of world he's living in? How many countless tirades and days of misery will he subject himself to until he wakes up and says, "Hey, I live in a racist world, it has always been racist and it will always be racist."

How hard is it to understand that all white people hate black people, all blacks hate whites, all Mexicans hate Spaniards, all Chinese hate Japanese, all Australians hate the Brits, us Irish folk hate everybody, all professors hate students and all dogs hate cats?

He should try teaching the kids in elementary schools about race relations, because college professors and most college students are not going to be dissuaded by Mr. Watkins. Social change comes as a result of culture change. And a culture changes with its youth -- not college youth, but the rising clear minds of younger kids who will someday be the college students and the college board members that people like Mr. Watkins will be pleading to.

So Boyce can keep complaining about UK's racist system all he wants, just don't expect that system to improve anytime soon.
