Yeah, I respect him for this. But the joke is, domestic partners are pretty much the same thing. So woohoo, people, you've protected a word.

You don't understand the gay agenda. That's all they want.

No, we've maintained the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

"protected a word."

Maybe, but words are important. They are the key to people's understanding of things. Allowing the gay-rights people to say they have "marriage" would contribute to the erosion of the fundamental categories by which we understand our society. As intended.

Not for nothing do the gay-rights wackos regard domestic partnerships as a second-class status.

As a Californian, I also savor ANY defeat of the vile left-wing machine that runs this state. I'll save the carping for later, thank you.

A word can be pretty important. Remember the "is" problem? If the "word" isn't that important, why fight for it?

The point is that he's protecting democracy. Citizens voted and he's making sure that those votes count. I thought that was paramount to democrats? Right? Each vote counts, right? Come on, help me out here. Either you want the votes to count or you don't.

To a certain extent, you are correct. But the gay agenda crowd would not be pushing for this word if it didn't matter.

And though civil unions and domestic partnerships are big, big trouble, if I had a choice between a guy taking a whiz on my dictionary or on my Bible, I'd say "dictionary" every time.

Of course, in the real world I'd rip his head off, but I'm just speaking hypothetically.

That word needs to mean something.
It is protecting a standard of civilized society to protect marriage.

Not just a word my friend. Real marriages are recognized everywhere in the United States. And the more states that pass this plus DOMA ought to tell the federales what is what

Not really.. the whole issue of redefining marrage for the left is a back-door to gaining all of the 'preferentail treatment' law has bestowed upon marrage for the overall benefit of social stablity. IF 'domenstic partnership' is to bestowed all of those benefits they should have to get them approved indivudally, not redefing the source clause and in effect grandfather everything from that point in. IF that is voted on and passed then so be it, but its not to be done by policial/legal manuvering.

That's what I thought. Nothing really changes except the homosexuals can't get "married", which really doesn't mean much any more.

People on this thread are dumb as cows.

It's the same thing. DP probably have even more rights and perqs.

I think Arnold is essentially lying with this -- fig leaf type stuff that apparently fools a lot of people.
