Anybody know what the vote was on Mike Brown's confirmation via the Senate? I've been trying to find this out. I think this guy will be the fall guy but that's not really why I'm asking. A lot of my liberal "colleagues" are screaming about cronyism and my guess is that this guy was confirmed by the entire Senate or damn close.
Can't seem to find the information, however.
That's conforting...I think. Be that as it may, Brown will have to go...it won't be immediately...perhaps a lateral transfer to a less sensitive position but promulgated as a promotion...or he'll leave because he wants to spend more time with the family...or fill in the blank yourself.
The system demands a fall guy...and a fall guy the system shall have. So it is said, so shall it be done ;-)
"The system demands a fall guy.."
I nominate infocats to be the fall guy:)
Oh no...Not again!
Expect a late night call from GWB...;)
you should tell your liberal friends to eat worms.
Read the following for more info on Michael Brown.

I don't think it's going to be as easy and just laying this at the feet of the head of FEMA. I think it's going to be deeper than that. A LOT of grant money has been given out, we need to know what was done with that.
While I agree with most of your post, I take exception to the above. I think the point is, it is FEMA's job to know these things before the fact, not after. Are you suggesting that FEMA doesn't have computers that can query the inventory databases of these localities, especially when these supplies were probably furnished by the fed in the first instance? If I have any criticisim of Mike Brown, it is that he was not paranoid enough, not forward thinking enough, in his administration of FEMA...and why should he be? His background, his experience just didn't prepare him for the complexities of this type of job...but I can't even blame him. I think the real blame falls on the people who appointed him, and the people who confirmed him.
Source your accusations please. Dates, names, times, etc. Thank you in advance.
"What can possibly prepare a person to handle this type of event?"
Actually, it's not all that hard to imagine. A long career in firefighting or police work. A long military career. All of those would probably qualify someone to handle this kind of job.
I'm afraid that Brown has none of this experience. He's so far not qualified that it's an embarrassment. He should not have been appointed to this position, I'm afraid, and that's going to be the news for a long, long time.
Believe me, I don't disagree with your assertion that Nagin and Blanco should be gone. I absolutely concur. I just also think that Brown will be gone too.
Trust me, Blanco and Nagin were brutal and really put Bush in a terrible spot. They essentially dealt him an unplayable hand to their incompetency.
When I get paid Mike Brown's salary, watch my speed pick up ;-)
"If I have any criticisim of Mike Brown, it is that he was not paranoid enough.."
Are you suggesting someone like Sidney Blumenthal is better qualified?
He must have inborn common horse sense, the ability to organize and plan anything on the dime, and the ability to foresee and anticipate problems. Lots of leaders like this around but not in the government. Like Gov Perry of TX right now has to be mentally planning what to do if a big one comes up that gulf toward Galveston or Houston. All our shelters across the state bulging, resources stretched, etc. You can bet he is doing just that.
>> Is Trent Lott a victim of the left wing media spin machine? Because he is not happy with FEMA either. <<
Lott? LOL. He is a media hound.
No...merely suggesting that Mike Brown is unqualified! Look, the facts are the facts...no matter how much you or I might wish them different.
Mr. Chertoff also expressed confidence in Michael D. Brown, a Homeland Security undersecretary and the Federal Emergency Management Agency director, who has coordinated federal efforts at the scene.
Mr. Brown has come under fire from critics of the federal government's hurricane response, who describe him as a political appointee who had no disaster experience before joining FEMA.
Though he once worked as a municipal official in Edmond, Okla., Mr. Brown's major previous job was as commissioner of the International Arabian Horse Association, from which he resigned under pressure in 2001 after a controversial 10 years.

He was controversial because he enforced the rules. The following is a thread about all of Brown's credentials:

We all need to wait until all the facts come out. I am getting dizzy with all the spin. I am in favor of changing anything if it needs to be changed due to incompetence or malfeasance. More perceptive might be better than more paranoid..

You have been reading too much Maureen Dowd. Brown has some very good experience. This is from his bio:
"Under Secretary Brown has led Homeland Security response to more than 164 presidentially declared disasters and emergencies, including the 2003 Columbia Shuttle disaster and the California wildfires in 2003. In 2004, Mr. Brown led FEMA thousands of dedicated disaster workers during the most active hurricane season in over 100 years, as FEMA delivered aid more quickly and more efficiently than ever before."
During those 164 declared disasters with Brown in charge do you recall any complaints? I don't.
Did you know that he was a former assistant city manager with emergency services oversite?
This is tread on his credentials:
