Anybody know what the vote was on Mike Brown's confirmation via the Senate? (Vanity)

Anybody know what the vote was on Mike Brown's confirmation via the Senate? I've been trying to find this out. I think this guy will be the fall guy but that's not really why I'm asking. A lot of my liberal "colleagues" are screaming about cronyism and my guess is that this guy was confirmed by the entire Senate or damn close.

Can't seem to find the information, however.

"I think this guy will be the fall guy.......",/i>

As far as I can tell, the appointment of Mike Brown to head FEMA will be President Bush's greatest area of vulnerability in the Katrina tragedy.

You're kidding, right?

Every state has a Emergency Mgmt group. That means there are no fewer than 50 people who have the type of experience that will guide them in situations such as these. Exact experience, no, but trained and educated in how to marshall the various forces needed in an emergency.

Each of those 50 folks has staff underneath them. They've all worked in the field.

Okay, I was wrong. He did go through Senate confirmation.

The calls to fire FEMA Director Michael Brown—his full bureaucratic title is Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness & Response—have been escalating today. Much is being made of Brown's thin credentials in emergency management. It would have been nice, of course, if Brown's record had been scrutinized before he was handed the keys to FEMA, but when Brown faced Senate confirmation hearings in 2002 as FEMA's deputy director, there was wide bipartisan support, and the then-Democratic controlled Senate approved Brown on a voice vote. (I cannot find any record of Brown's Senate confirmation to his current position; there may not have been a second confirmation hearing.)

I've uploaded the transcript of Brown's 2002 confirmation hearing transcript so everyone can make their own judgments. You can download the transcript at this link:

No, I'm not kidding.

This event is bigger than anything that previous experience could have prepared for.

Also, without knowing all of the 'facts', only the 'facts' we have been spoon fed from the DNC controlled media, how do we know that he didn't perform superbly?

The Senate should be held accountable too.

LOL, I think that the entire political class will settle on the good Mayor of LA.

First reason is that Mike Brown has done nothing wrong (other miss statements possibly).

Second reason is that the Mayor of NO should be in jail for malfeasance and that is clear.

Third reason is that the Dems have to protect the incompetent Governor to retain their last state wide power base in the South.

Are you sure he is simply appointed? At one point it was a cabinet level position and I thought it needed Senate approval. I'm just asking.

It is no longer a Cabinet level position, it is now under Homeland Security and needs no Senate Approval.

From where I come from, the exception often proves the rule.

Fellow Freepers:

At the suggestion of writer Michelle Malkin last Friday, I have cobbled together a blogsite called Texas Clearinghouse for Katrina Aid to serve as a clearinghouse for refugee efforts in Texas.

Texas is getting more refugees than any other state -- that's fine, we'll take them all -- but we need help providing them with food, clothing, and shelter.

If you are a refugee, you can information that will help you find relief. If you want to donate or volunteer, you can find someone who needs you.

Right now the site mostly covers Houston and Dallas but I will add various churches, schools, and other charities in San Antonio and Ft. Worth tonight. My wife is down at Reunion Arena in Dallas as we speak handing out care packages and otherwise ministering to the refugees as a representative of her employer.

There are a lot of churches and other organizations in Texas that need help in dealing with the problem and I would be most appreciative if you would get the word out.

Many thanks,

Michael McCullough

Stingray blogsite

Good, now show us where he was approved for his current position, not as DEPUTY Director.

Why not get the names of the FEMA liasons in LA? LA has lots of "FEMA" like positions.

LA Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness
Mr. Arthur Jones is the Division Chief of the Disaster Recovery Division.
Mr. Jones works closely with FEMA Region VI Officials
http://www.loep.state.la.us/hlspersonnel/jonesbio.htm

Mr. Sean R. Fontenot is the Division Chief of the Preparedness Division.

FEMA is a bottom up organization too. Anybody who knee-jerk focuses on Brown is being simpleminded.

Not really. FEMA can only do so much.
