WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 /U.S. Newswire/ -- George Soros, in a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal today, called for an end to the use of the phrase "War on Terror," arguing that the term has driven our response to terrorism in a purely military direction.

The ad was released in conjunction with a conference taking place in Washington yesterday and today sponsored by the New America Foundation, "Terrorism, Security and America's Purpose." The text of the ad contains remarks delivered by Soros yesterday in which he called on the United States to adopt a broad-based response to terrorism that recognizes that terrorism is a tactic employed for political purposes. In Soros' remarks, he stated that America's response to terror since 9/11 has been too heavily focused on military measures and has caused more harm than good. Soros called for a full and open debate about the best way to ensure American and world security in the years to come.
