Mother's remark puts silver foot in Bush's mouth ['Yo mama!]
Chicago Tribune ^ | September 7, 2005 | John Kass

Posted on 09/07/2005 6:18:40 AM PDT by johnny7

I was all set to defend President Bush as a guy who really doesn't want poor black people in Louisiana and Mississippi to die of starvation and disease, no matter what the Democrats say.

But then Barbara Bush, the president's mom, went and dusted off the Bush family silver foot Monday. And she used it. While touring the Houston Astrodome, where thousands of Hurricane Katrina refugees have been huddling, Barbara Bush said they didn't have it so bad because, heck, they were poor to begin with. "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas," she was quoted as saying in an interview on National Public Radio.

Barbara Bush is not the First Lady, nor presdient. She is a private citizen donating her time, money, and energy---sha has done far, far more than the vast majority of Americans to help our fellow citizens.

All quite true. It's still not wise to look at a bunch of hurricane refugees and say, "Looks like you have it pretty good!"

True statement or not. It was a STUPID statement to make.
I'm sure many people believe this, but for her to say shows great insensitivity This is really going to hurt Bush, and that's is my concern.

I've seen more self-determination on Indian reservations.

The welfare queens are the same all over, they can tell their friends what agency will be giving out grants /vouchers for school clothes, supplies, rental assitance ultility payments;they have no reason to work, they breed like cockroaches. Someone tell me why not one of these baby's daddie's made arrangements for their children to leave town, because their resources are spread on the average to 5-6 children with different women.I pray for the communities that see these people settle there; who have always been totally dependent on the goverment for their basic needs.I saw the neighborhoods first hand working as a home health nurse it is scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are survivors, not victims, of a hurricane, and I believe that Mrs Bush's attitude is one of hope for the future for these survivors.

Their only victimhood comes from socialism at this point in our country.

As you know, liberals need no pretext, they slander at will, and their incendiary remarks are as usual, hysterical.

This faux outrage is a fine example of the political hollowness and the unseriousness of the left.

Wasn't the leftist and media, just telling us that starving is euphoric? Terry Schiavo was not in any pain at all! These folks went maybe 48 hrs. Terry went about 13 days. Also, if you look at the refugees, they are about 80% obese. Poverty. Does a body good.

"..but what she said was not "true."

Actually, it was an opinion - therefore neither "true" nor "false".

I guess you can call her insensitive if you want (and by that really mean "un-pc"), but I agree w/ her.

You got it right Pal.

Texas stepped in to help and will end up taking it up the rear end.

Answer these questions
1. How long will you have to keep them?
2. Who is going to pay the bill?
3.How many will have to be dragged out kicking and screaming.
4. What happens when your crime rate starts up as people with no money start hitting the streets.
5. What about schools for the kids?
6. Who is going to pay for their health care.
7. Will Louissianna forward the welfare checks to Texas?
8. Who makes the decision of when they return?
Do you wait until Blanko decides its ok to bring them back? If she postpones that decision as she postp[oned the decision to evacuate you will be waiting a long time.

When Barbara Bush made that statement she was bragging about how Texas did a great thing for those people, and they did , no doubt. She never gave a thought to the left wing liberals slanting her words to suit their agenda.

Isn't that the excuse that everyone is using as to why these people stayed in NO? They are poor so they could not leave.

" Part of the reason there's so much trash around is that the City doesn't bother to do clean-up here very often."

I wonder about that. Do you really think the city cleans up less often in bad neighborhoods, or is it just that it gets skanked up so much quicker there?

At the stadium in N.O. they said the garbage (including excrement) was ankle deep inside. Does everyone really have to just drop stuff wherever they are? Couldn't they take it outside?

They were living in a toilet and the toilet got flushed. Sure, it was a shock and a gruesome ordeal. But out of tragedy, hope springs. These were people so poor, powerless, helpless and dependent on the government teat that they couldn't find their way out of danger with advance warning. Now they have good people helping them in Texas instead of the welfare slumlords of LA. In the long run it's a good thing for them by and large.

"While touring the Houston Astrodome, where thousands of Hurricane Katrina refugees have been huddling, Barbara Bush said they didn't have it so bad because, heck, they were poor to begin with.

this passage is tainted by the authors predisposition towards Mrs Bush

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas,"

the QUOTE above is , Mrs. Bushs actual words

it is scary because they are so poor and destitute that staying in a 20,000 bed makeshift refugee center is more desirable than returning to their previous lives in NO

she was quoted as saying in an interview on National Public Radio."

Have you ever seen or been in the New Orleans projects? The Grey Fox's remark was correct from every angle. Many of these people, actually some three generations of them have lived like caged animals in public housing, encouraged by their chosen government, Democratic, to live on the hand outs of Government both State and Federal.

It is time for all to see the real picture of the Welfare Cripple. Yes, many are better off than they have ever been before.

Get of Mrs. Bush's back!
