Government Dependency Exposed

Diana M. Poranski

The aftermath of hurricane Katrina though devastating and tragic has unearthed a more disturbing human concern. The horrific images and stories post Katrina exposes the dirty little secret of government dependency. Disguised as compassion for the downtrodden, decades of government assistance have resulted in the poorest among us lacking basic human survival skills. It appears these people have lost the ability to help themselves.

The great social experiment of welfare is a fraudulent failure; it’s disheartening to see the affects of this failed system played out on national television. Through psychological conditioning, those American’s on government assistance have been trained to rely on others for their basic human needs. In short, welfare has created an impoverished class of people so dependent on others that they have become powerless and unable to care for themselves.

Having no responsibilities, these individuals look to the federal government for survival. They rely on the government for housing, for living expenses, for medical care and even for buses to take them to vote. Learned dependency is a direct result of this type of behavioral conditioning. Financially independent individuals were able to grasp the danger, act responsibly and flee the city; financially dependent individuals were waiting on others to act responsibly and subsequently were held hostage to their inability to help themselves.

Incompetent and disorganized can best describe Mayor Nagin of New Orleans, as his own welfare mentality rendered him virtually impotent in his ability to help the poorest of his constituents. As Craig R. Smith so eloquently writes, “… this is a perfect example of the liberal Democratic creed: ‘Welfare is the job of the federal government, which is ultimately responsible to provide all the cradle-to-grave food, clothing and shelter – especially in a disaster.’” Even though Mayor Nagin had the power and authority to evacuate the impoverished via city school bus, he too waited for someone else to act responsibly.

The winds of Katrina exposed more than vulnerability against category 5 storms; it exposed a class of dependent impoverished people, robbed of their dignity and stripped of their ability to protect themselves.

I think it's safe to say that welfare reform isn't working.

These people get anything they want of the government, but some how the government fails to free them of the criminals and the high crime in their neighborhoods.

It's worse than that - it has accomplished what it set out to do: destroy the American family structure - especially the black family. It was designed to make the American male obsolete and politically impotent. It was designed to put the feminazis in charge, to separate children from the family unit, and to weaken the fabric of the American way of life.

I agree that welfare has succeeded in keeping the poor-poor and the rich-rich, am not so sure about it aiding in the feminazis master plan to rule the earth, did not even realize that that was a problem.

War on Poverty: Democrat Lyndon Johnson's legacy. Let 'em all go to Texas--they gave him to us. Fair's fair.

You're exactly right. It accomplished what it was set up to do with near perfection.

That's a very good point. Don't ask me who wrote this, because it's been so long ago, but there were statistics on black culture after slavery was abolished. The blacks were more likely to be married, and many started their own businesses and communities. I wish I could remember where I saw it. Lol, probably here on FR!

What happened, and why? What ever it was trickled down into all race demographics with "feminism". I call it socialism these days. There's nothing feminine about it.

We're seeing the aftermath of all these dandy social experiments. I hope and pray that this terrible disaster gives people a chance to form new attitudes, and build self sufficient lives away from their keepers....which is why JJ is screaming to keep the poor in LA.

I beg to differ with you. Welfare is working exactly as Democrats have planned. Can you name a more reliable Democrat voting block than the feeders at the public trough? The only worry the Democrats have is that this block is so well sated that it's a problem getting some of them to the polls. The Democrat solution - more absentee voting with greater ease.

It appears that not only Rush Limbaugh, but others also use Free Republic for show prep and unique editorial ideas.

Here's a link to the original piece that was posted on FR 09/03/05. http://users3.ev1.net/~inf/katrinablame.htm

It was titled 45 Years on the Federal Plantation...

Very good post, this just about says it all. I hope this exposes the liberal Democrats programs to a lot more people that were not paying attention to what has happened and is going on in the Democrat party. (of course they would all have to be people that do not frequent FR.)

Remember the statement from the Mayor, "they must get off their asses" (government). Just like the article says, he has fed at the trough all his life and and does'nt know anything else.

Oh yes, the poor blacks are JJ & company's meal tickets. When they wise up, he and his ilk are history. They're starting to see a whole nother side to life, and it doesn't bode well for the plantation owners.

Exactly. JJ and Co. stay in business for themselves, lining their pockets with others money, by keeping their own people down and back.

My fondest hope for these folks, is that they get a new lease on life. That they repudiate people like JJ and the Democratic Party, and realize that they can rebuild on their own initiative.

That's going to take some time, judging by their education levels, and complete submissiveness to government. Not all, but some. We wonder why public education is completely substandard? There is method in the madness.

Many blacks have come to realize they are at odds with the Democrats when it comes to such hot button topics as gay marriage, or removal of God from public places, and I daresay that even the tax cuts and Bush's SS policy had some play in it as well. I heard many hardcore black Democrat voters voted for a Republican president for the first time in their life.

The Democrats lost alot of their support they counted on for years, based on their kooky left-winged agenda.

The real benefit of this catastrophe is that it has taken the Welfare Class out of the slums where generations of them lived with no other view of the world, and placed them in the middle of working, functional families who are making it. They are seeing that there is in fact another choice for their lives, and they have people around them who can help them to attain it.

Although Barbara Bush has been vilified for saying so, this may be the very thing that turns millions of lives around. I wonder if we will ever hear about those who succeed?
