Wow. Gof forbid if you disagree with the general consensus on Free Republic.
I never once suggested Brown move people into New Orleans before the hurricane hit.
Waiting until AFTER the storm hit to seek approval to move workers? Not knowing if the people he was sending were even trained and needing 48 hours to make sure? Going live on CNN and admitting he did not even know until THURSDAY that there were people at the Convention Center?
I know that FEMA is not a "first response" agency, I've been making that point on message boards for days. But this lack of leadership and competence is a disgrace.
I'm calling it right now... Brown is OUT as FEMA Director.
You can have your opinion but when your opinion is not based on facts and you refuse to acknowledge those facts, then you deserve what you get.
Freeping is a full contact sport.
>>I'm calling it right now... Brown is OUT as FEMA Director.
You better give him a call and tell him. I'd hate for him to read about it on Free Republic.
This claim is really ridiculous. The local authorities are responsible for notifying FEMA of what dangerous conditions need to be addressed. If the locals can't tell FEMA about local conditions, what are the Feds supposed to do?
You're doing exactly what the press and the Democrats are doing--taking yet another aspect of the absolute worthlessness of the local authorities, and blaming it on the administration.
FEMA moves in to manage Federally funded cleanup and relief efforts that being 72 hours after the disaster. There is no reason for them to move in any sooner because usually they'll just get in the way of local police, fire, and emergency medical staffs. In this New Orleans flood, unfortunately the local police and fire departments essentially disintegrated and did not fulfill their usual role in the first 72 hours after the hurricane and flood. To make matters much worse, New Orleans and the state of Lousiana did not follow their own emergency evacuation plan for the city and failed to use thousands of city buses to evacuate those who do not own cars.
OK, now is everything cleared up? Good, so now you know that it was the city and state (Nagin and Blanco) who screwed up big-time in this hurricane and are responsible for a large number of unnecessary casualties.
Since you knew there were people in the Convention Center why didn't you rush down there and rescue all those people.
You could have convinced the people in the Superdome to act civilized and organize for the greater good too.
God forbid you throw misinformed accusations around and then have to defend them. Why bother when you can just shriek, piss and moan about how the "general consensus" is being mean to you? You're SUCH a victim!
