"Did they use the buses to get people out of the city or to the Super Dome?"
That's a good question, and I'm confused a little, too.
Did they have a plan to use city buses to get the people out of town before Katrina hit, or did they use them to shuttle them to the Super Dome?

"I say... you HAVE to help them. They are, afterall, our countrymen. We all want our comfort and personal space but our nation comes first. "There but for the grace of God go I." It's the only sensible answer."
I agree, Types, without a blink.

I am STILL unclear about the busing plan to get the citizenry out of town beforehand. James, a couple of nights ago, noted all the school buses just sitting there in the water, and said:
"There was no plan to get the people on buses out of the city."
Holwin replied back to him:
"You are wrong. They used city buses."And a little later added: "There were buses picking up people all over the city."
Which was it? Anyone know?

"They were city buses, like Greyhounds."

Thank you, but where are all those city buses now? Why are not those same city buses shuttling the poor people out of the Hell Dome and Convention Coop NOW? Are the city buses on their way to Canada or something? Why didn't the *plan* include coming back for the now very stranded citizenry?
Anyone? Bueller?

I do not know that, Miss!

I was just wondering if there in fact was a plan, and about all the city buses "picking up people all over the city."
Something doesn't pass the smell test.

And the supposed very operational, all warmed up, evac route familiar/experienced city buses that were "picking up people all over the city" have apparently vanished into thin air....
Where are these city buses and why haven't they turned their big steering wheels 180 degrees to pick up at LEAST the sick/dying babies and their mothers?
My BS detector on this story is on fire.

"They used city buses to move people inside of the city, not out of the city."
Howlin flat out said that you were wrong, and that they were used to shuttle the citizenry OUT of the city before Katrina hit.
So where are they now? Especially given the very tenuous situations at The Doom Dome and The Convention Coop? Many people are [faring] VERY poorly at this point.

"For Gods sake they should be using trucks, busses, anything that can roll out of town."
YES. Outfits like Swift Trucking must have a google units. Cut some windows in the sides for ventilation, throw in some cushions, blankets, water, and GO.

"Yes, that is what I remember. They took people to the SD and other 'refuges of last resort'. As far as I know, public transportation WAS NOT USED for evacuation."
Trust, All I now subsequently hear is *crickets* on the board, regarding truth/truth in plan, of this very important matter....
*********************************************************
And the non-response to anyone that had questions about Howlin's very dubious claim continued, despite the pings to her. She continued to post on unrelated matters on other threads, offering no proof of her firm claim or anything.
And this matter is increasingly, in fact, extremely important. Brit showed the pics finally, and much top-level focus is now hitting the airwaves. SO many lives could have been spared.
SO many in NOLA relied on public transit.
I'd like to add one more thing: Thank you to the many who FReepmailed me this morning. I appreciate your support very much. I received zero negative mail. None.
Without taking sides...PLEASE don't bring that conflict to this thread...enough.
I'd like to say that my last post is all that I am going to offer on the matter. I don't have time or the energy left to do so.
?????
It is clear that I was confused as to what buses you were talking about; I was talking about the buses that they used to pick up people in the city.
I wasn't clear; I was wrong; I said so last night, but you are just simmering with hatred.
And MAJOR issues.
I asked you last night to take that stuff somewhere else, but you had to return to embarass yourself one more time.
Enough.
I would appreciate it if we did not drag previous arguments onto new threads. Not only is it against protocol, I believe it is this argument which finally and sadly shut down our Katrina live threads which most of us enjoyed so much.
Thank you.
I guess I don't understand what the controversy was. Did I have something to do with this? The post of mine quoted was in answer to someone else who wondered if the people in New Orleans deserved to be saved if they had chosen to stay. Has that become controversial?
sigh
let's move on..
Miss Behave.. I think you should go to law school (or did you?)
Say, aren't you the one who trashed the Live Hurricane threads with your petty bickering last night? Damn. What did you do that for? I was liking those threads. Nearly 50,000 posts were in those 15 threads and they were like a historic archive of this historic, catastrophic event. I'm bummed. Can't we all just get along?
