Coast to Coast Ping....

1st half hour guest Gil Smolin stated that most of those evacuees have the toxic stew brewing inside their intestines...and that the CDC is going to have to track symptoms carefully as they spread across the country.

Caller says that a huge tank farm of MTBE drained into the city, which is being drained into Lake Ponchatrain...

Just saw this on another thread ("Exhausted New Orleans cops battle on-(NO Cops mad at 300 cops that left" http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1479975/posts ):

"Hurricane Katrina left him with little more than his black SWAT uniform, but Patrolman David Harris has little sympathy for his 300 colleagues who fled New Orleans as the deadly storm targeted the city. They're cowards, if this were the army they'd be shot," he said, barely able to contain his anger.

The loss of 300 officers when the city needed them most, severely affected rescue and law enforcement efforts as New Orleans descended into lawlessness in the days after Katrina unleashed her wrath on August 29. People who you call friends turn their backs on you. They leave while we have killings, lootings and rapes, and when people need to be rescued," said Harris. Like several other officers of the New Orleans Police Department, Harris lost his house to the floodwaters. "I saw the roof the other day." ...

The storm's emotional toll on the city's residents has not spared its police force. Two officers committed suicide, one of them after finding his family dead in his shattered home. ...

In anticipation of Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans zoo stockpiled fuel, food and other supplies, Burnette said. When it hit last Monday, the staff fled to the sturdy reptile building and raided the cafeteria for food. Some staff remained at the zoo, she said.

The New Orleans zoo had a better plan than the mayor!

Cool cat, and that fellow's a good guy for rescuing him.

My favorite dog picture from the storm:

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Dan Langdon, of Bravo Company 2-4 Aviation, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas, comforts a stray dog after landing his Chinook helicopter, Saturday, Sept. 4, 2005 in New Orleans. The Chinook crew is flying missions in support of relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and was waiting to begin their next mission.

Also this regarding FEMA and the role they play in disaster response.

http://landrieu.senate.gov/services/agencies.cfm

"DISASTER ASSISTANCE

Emergency management operations for disasters include three phases: preparedness, response, and recovery. In the preparedness phase, state and local governments administer emergency preparedness programs with ongoing activities to help ensure that they are ready to respond to disasters. The Louisiana Department of Emergency Preparedness is responsible for all initial damage assessment prior to federal involvement. "The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) partially funds disaster assistance and emergency preparedness programs. Victims whose immediate needs are not met by voluntary relief organizations, such as the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, can register with FEMA."

Report on Bill O'Reilly that the Governor of LA put the National Guard under a gag order. They are not to discuss when they were called into service.

Isn't this something that is fairly easy to find out when the Guard was called into service? What's she hiding?

Yesterday that was an upper level low. Haven't looked at it today. I have seen upper level lows turn into tropical storms, but it's fairly rare. The conditions have to be just right.

First comes the local, then comes the state, and then comes the fed.

The press wanted it to be Fed immediately. Cannot do, for logistical and constitutional reasons.
