I also heard our govenor say that the money would be given to other people in the area who were displaced - not just those in shelters.

That's good, I wondered what they were going to do for the middle class.

BR metro council saying they "have 7500 acres around the state and plan to put trailer homes on this land for the displaced people". How many will never leave? He said "10 homes for every acre". Louisiana will be nothing but mobile homes. When the next storm comes, what will happen to those mobile homes? "We want to give these people an opportunity to get their FEMA benefits and lead a normal life".

I heard an "official" from Florida comment a while back that the reason there were so many deaths last year during their 2 hurricanes back-to-back, was because those communities had a high concentration of MOBILE HOMES...

I think LA..would just be setting up a more disastrous scenario. My goodness, if this storm could demolish Lott's 150 year old house that was probably built about as strong as anything in the last 50 years...what will that do to the mobile homes...

I mean...after all---there could be more hurricanes THIS year...

What will happen if those in the Astrodome get bus tickets and start heading back to Louisiana?

The mobile home idea is crazy.

Four people at Astrodome died likely due to infection from waterborn bacteria from floodwaters.

Any indication given as to WHY he was shooting? This is the thing that continues to defy my understanding - what reason could anyone possibly have to fire on rescue workers and utility repair crews?

Different info from CNN:

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday that five people have died in the area hit by Hurricane Katrina after becoming infected with Vibrio vulnificus, typically a more benign relative of the bacteria that cause cholera. One of the fatalities occurred in Texas; the other four were in Mississippi, CDC spokesman Tom Skinner said."

I hope that some of our spineless state congress are working on impeachment legislation. She has much blood on her hands. Oh wait, they haven't called a special session yet.

A lot of zoning boards will be ticked off. I was at a zoning meeting in Calcasieu parish when a person had several acres out in the country and the parish refused to allow them to put a trailer for their elderly mother because the area had just restricted the use of the land.
