The dark side of black people
Jamaica Star ^ | Leighton Levy

Posted on 09/06/2005 5:20:49 AM PDT by jmc1969

LET ME START by saying that if I had my life to live over a thousand times, the one thing I would not change would be my race. I am proud to be a black man. There are times however, when I wish that certain people and I did not share that trait.

For the past few days, the whole world ... well, at least those who have access to satellite and cable television, have been seeing pictures of the virtually total devastation of the cities of the U.S. Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina. An estimated 90 per cent of homes in New Orleans have been destroyed by flood waters and more than 100 people have been confirmed dead.

We see people standing on the roofs of their submerged homes desperate to be rescued, others being airlifted to safety, and we have heard tear-jerking stories of families losing their loved ones. But in all of this, we have also seen the really dark side of black people.

The day after the hurricane passed, there were reports of looting but network reporters had been saying that people were looting out of desperation, in search of food and water. A lot they knew.

The pictures I have been seeing are of people - black people - stealing shoes, diapers, and television sets. Not food and definitely not water. Not unless the armfuls of clothing, shoes, and appliances I see people wading through the streets with count as food and water.

Now, if all the looters were looting out of desperation, how desperate were the guy and girls I saw toting several boxes of size 13 Nikes? How desperate was the fellow with the stack of diapers? What, is it that he has several babies at home suffering from loose bowels? What am I talking about, what home? Everything is under water and what isn't, has been totally destroyed.

Plasma TV?

And just what are those guys stealing the plasma television sets going to be watching when there is no power in the entire city?

Desperation? Yeah, right. I am beginning to believe that black people, no matter where in the world they are, are cursed with a genetic predisposition to steal, murder, and create mayhem.

The entire firearm department at a Wal-Mart department store, for example, was cleaned out and the looters used the stolen weapons to rob people. How low is that? Everybody is suffering and the black people would seek to rob people who are suffering just like themselves.

No white looters?

And it has nothing to do with poverty. Where are the white people in all this? I am sure there are poor white people living in New Orleans, Biloxi and the other towns affected by what has been going on. Is it that the media are not showing pictures of them looting and robbing? Or is it that they are too busy trying to stay alive, waiting to be rescued, and hiding from the blacks.

And you know what? Even if the poor whites were looting and robbing, wouldn't it be nice if the blacks could have made them the only ones doing it

Just once, I would like for us blacks to take the high road in situations like this, where instead of showing our darkest side, we put our best foot forward. But I guess that would be too much to ask, too much of a case of wishful thinking.

Yeah, he let the "pros" out, who immediately hit stores with guns. I also have a theory that there was a small army of bad guys who stayed in NO just to take advantage of looting opportunities. Given this, the looting then looked worse than it would have been in other circumstances.

I read that there was an attempt at mandatory house-to-house evacuation, where people were required to sign releases to stay. It'll be interesting to match that paperwork with criminal records--but the pols in NO probably don't have either the sense or gumption to look into it.

You know what i think would make a good human interest story? Even a background for a future movie on NO...what are the NO lawyers going to do?

I mean, NO was lousy with some of the vilest and most voracious of the "profession." Now, they are without courtrooms and offices. I'm wondering what they'll be up to.

Dennis Prager made a very good point on his show about a week ago that morality is not a race issue. He opined that there is a subclass or subculture, if you will, of both white and black that are immune to the civilizing components of society and are immune to the elevation of the self. This is surely true and we have all seen evil and it knows no race - think Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, etc. Unfortunately, as Prager also pointed out, this subculture of those immune seems to be disproportionately black and for that we can blame the small, though powerful, portion that has steeped itself in gangsta rap and an ideology almost of anti-family values: men who impregnate multiple women, not caring for their children, not working, not participating in society on any level.... well, it was a good point.

It is definitely a cultural disconnect. Here in Alberta, Black pioneers helped settle the wilderness and thier proud descendants have made significant contributions to our country.

he forgot the black guy with his white teeth gleamin' while wading through hip high water with a box of Heiniken beer in front of him. It was in the NY Post the first or second day after Katrina.

And yet there are wonderful role models like Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice.

Colin Powell, 3 Star General Honore.. the list goes on but the secular liberal rags and MSM plantation owners and black slave traders J. Jackson and Al Sharpton don't want the sheeple to know this.

The problem with this piece is that it paints "black people" with a broad brush. The pictures that came out of NOLA were skewedby the MSM's agenda to victimize the people there...

I see the MSM has done it's job thoroughly.

I thought they just did that to make the fundraising efforts of the various charities fail, or at least, falter, so the race-baiters and other liberals could continue beating the "BUSH-FAILURE-BUSH-FAILURE..." drum.

The mess there now would only be exacerbated by a lack of private sector relief funds, which could be blamed on the "uncaring", evil "haves", and that Richard Whiteman guy. (Rich gets blamed for everything by some folks.)

Shifting blame is the only hope the failed state and local politicians have of not getting a Republican to replace them come next election, and the MSM is doing all they can to help.

Unfortunately, that will come at the expense of all the decent, hard working (if poor) folks who have lost everything, regardless of what color their skin is.

When you consider that white folks make up the largest percentage of welfare recipients it sort of casts the whole racial issue into doubt. Poverty breeds a certain mentality and when people are allowed to stay on the tit you breed dependency and need.

You are being far to kind to the MSM. I'm not so sure those pictures weren't skewed to promote racial tension, at least to some degree.

It's definitely not anything inherent to people who happen to be black. However, as you pointed out so well, NO was a "racially-charged plantation-welfare state" where black people had been told for years that they were not individuals, they were simply part of an aggrieved group known as "blacks" which, in turn, was wholly owned by the Democratic Party.

One way to turn people into animals is to take away their individual responsibility and give them a group name as their self-definition. There's no moral component to it, as we well saw - where some rioters even stated in interviews that they saw it as an opportunity for "the black man to get back" at the rest of the world. That's the product of a political culture of that has latched onto race as a handy way of identifying and controlling a power bloc.

Indeed. This piece ignores the good people that were left in the town; the MSM ignored them as well -- after all, there was no glitzy story there; no opportunity to hang this on the Bush Administration there.

Everyone keeps harping on the time frame and pointing at the tsunami, without realizing that it took a week or more for aid to reach the hardest hit areas of that region like Phuket, even though Phuket is normally reached quickly and easily from Hong Kong, the Middle East, India and Australia.

There were challenges behind getting there quickly; there were likewise challenges in getting to NOLA any sooner than they did.

The predators who decided to go looting were just that. Predators. There is no defense for them at all.

Of course they have -- it bolsters their broad-brush arguement regarding blacks. There are some here on FR who fall into that same category.

In their minds, black people like you and I "arent' really black."
