Daniel Pipes: L.A.'s thwarted terror spree

The contented ineptness of law enforcement, the danger of American prisons, and the emergence of African-Americans Islamist terrorists

The Jewish High Holidays this year fall in early October, and that's when a massacre was planned against two Los Angeles synagogues, as well as other targets, according to an indictment just handed down against four young Muslim men.

Law enforcement traces the origins of this plot to 1997. That's when Kevin Lamar James, a black inmate at New Folsom Prison, near Sacramento, California, founded Jam'iyyat Ul-Islam Is-Saheeh (JIS, Arabic for "Assembly of Authentic Islam"). JIS promotes the sort of jihadi version of Islam typical of American jails. As the indictment puts it, James, now 29, preached that JIS members have the duty "to target for violent attack any enemies of Islam or 'infidels,' including the United States government and Jewish and non-Jewish supporters of Israel."

My thoughts exactly. When Rabbi Meir Kahane, ztl was murdered by an Islamic extremist in 1991, most people dismissed it as a "Jewish problem." A decade later and four years after 9/11 we can see clearly its not just the Jews' problem. If one subscribes to the thesis that Jews are the "miner's canary" of civilization, it follows that assaults upon them will not be confined solely to Jews for long. This is not just recent history. In the past century, the world mistook Hitler's hatred of the Jews as a matter that concerned Jews only. We all know the outcome. And Daniel Pipes I think, conveys here a lesson for liberal American Jews: the enemy - the real danger facing Jews in this country today, is not who their liberal leadership think it is. Its not the ultra-right fringe fascist crazies led by David Duke; its not the standard Christian fundamentalist bogeyman of the Jewish Left, the Jerry Falwells - and it cetainly is not the Republican Party. No, today, the real enemy of the Jews are Islamists bent on slaughtering them. And this enemy is also the enemy of America. Like it or not, Jewish and non-Jewish Americans are together in the same boat.

This is NOT a development I wanted to see, although I sensed it coming sometime back. I've lived in places with some major gang problems, and equally major political denials of the existance of those problems. It isn't uncommon to see local politicians from the gang ridden parts of town make common cause with both the gang members and Calypso Louie's happy little band of mental defectives. The criminals are out in the open with their alliance now, and it's going to be harsher than ever for police as well as for citizens in general....and who will suffer the most for it? The people who live in the gang wracked neighborhoods....because, inevitably, the few remaining good people in those neighborhoods have been disarmed by the local government and are unable (or unwilling) to fight back. Look for body counts and crime rates to start going up, and cries of "Racism!" to also go up.

This article shines a very bright light on something that has been evident for some time to any who wanted to see it: it's time for Jews in America to accept the reality of who their true enemies are, and who they are not. The Jews do not have the Republican party in their "Enemy" column. The Jews do NOT have Christianity in their "Enemy" column; misguided supremacist splinter cults notwithstanding. The Jews do NOT have Rush Limbaugh or any notable conservative figure, in their "Enemy" column. That any Jew in America perceives any of the aforementioned as an "enemy" is manifest evidence of self-deception established upon a foundation of previously accepted lies about, or abject ignorance of, said group(s) and/or person(s). This must happen, but it is only the very beginning.

This mandate to change is incumbent upon a far longer list of groups extending well beyond the limits of the Jewish community in America. This list encompasses all races, creeds, and social strata of American society and, in fact, with rare exception made for the few who are already wide awake, the list, taken as a whole, and the whole of American society can be regarded as one and the same. Everyone in America must change, must recalibrate their "enemy" profile (GASP! he used the "p" word!) and revise their mental "enemy" list.

This isn't an issue of political alignment, nor is it a matter of personal preference. It is, rather, the very grave issue of personal and societal survival. This isn't some multi-player, first-person shooter, internet fantasy role-playing game, this is the straight-up, unadulterated, post-9-11 reality of life on Earth: now more than ever, a robust identify friend/foe capability demarcates the categories of living and dead. All who wish to remain among the living will embrace this change. Those who do not embrace this change will unnecessarily exponentiate their probability of an untimely and violent death.

You know the plan. EXECUTE. That is all.
