the U.S. statement said. "The munitions used in the strike were designed to crater the bridges, rendering them inoperable but not destroying them."
When will the nightmare of PC kinder gentler compassionate war fighting ever end? Now we don't even want to hurt bridges. Man not only should we be destroying brigdes completely but we should be destroying them INSIDE SYRIA.
Again we are waiting for the enemy to pick the time and place to attack us after they have regrouped refitted and reorganized in their Vietnam/Laos-Cambodia like sanctuary of Syria. Where they enjoy safe haven from our weaponry.
Why Mr. Bush do you allow this to go on? Don't you recognize that the Iraqis know this too. The Iraqi people know that the Americans can't hide from the terrorist but the terrorist can hide in Syria and Iran because apparently, the Americans are afraid to attack Syria and Iran.
Why?
The President should explain the reasons why we are on the defensive waiting to be attacked.
Blast Damascus with some heavy duty shock and awe and see how things turn around. You'll see the stinking Syrians controlling that border like their life depended on it. Right now its our lives that depend on it.

Amusing post!

Why?<
Perhaps you'd like to consider the medium-term and long-term consequences of this, for example effects on oil supply and the economy, to name but two.
Relax, US troop losses are minimal, progress is being made on the political front - where it really counts. And military considerations must always be totally subordinate to political ones. Otherwise, all casualties will be in vain. Simple, really.

If we destroyed the bridges, we'd have to rebuild them, something that is a big PITA. Cratering them is just as effective at rendering them useless but costs a lot less to (eventually) repair.

(Overwhelmingly superior firepower and the willingness to use it is the only proven peace solution.)

Well, this kind of stuff
lets the military test
our weird munitions
that someday we may
have to use in places like,
well, say, New Orleans . . .

Maybe we didn't destroy the bridges, because we might want to quickly repair and use them?
