Ellen Johnson, president of the group said Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and Bush "should not be violating the Constitution by telling people to pray for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Meanwhile, what is she doing other than flapping her jaws?

While the atheists write their press releases against prayer, the Chrisitans of this country open their homes, pocketbooks, and hearts to the victims.

I think they don't understand the clear words of the Constitution, and they don't understand God.

The Constitution says the government will not establish a specific state religion. Exactly what single religion does simply saying "pray for them" establish? Right-- NONE.

Some people are so anti-religion they see red at the mention of the word "prayer." It's pathetic really.

I haven't heard them condemning black politicians hanging out with Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Did they throw a fit when Reverend Al Sharpton ran for President?

What's REALLY upsetting is all of these Churches and faith based organizations providing shelter and relief after the hurricane.
Separation of Church and disaster relief!!!

Prayers are offered by faith. Any faith. It isn't a "religion". IMHO ....Atheism takes much more faith than any sect that believes in a Supreme being. I wonder what entity he worships? The Hildebeast?

An atheist's most embarrassing moment is when he feels profoundly thankful for something, but can't think of anybody to thank for it. - Mary Ann Vincent.

The real heretic is not the atheist or agnostic (who are often decent people) but those who murmur "it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as it makes you feel good." This turns religion into a subjective matter, like taste in furnishings, and robs theology of its claim to ultimate truth. - Sydney J. Harris

IMO, if the President or any other official claims to be a Christian, Christ's direct teaching is to pray for one another - irrespective of all the Ellen Johnsons of the world.

Ellen Johnson wouldn't know a "violation of the Constitution" if one jumped up and bit her on the ass. If she is so worried about the U.S. Constitution, she might want to read the First Amendment and the part about Freedom of Religion. That First Amendment gives President Bush the right to ask people to pray for the victims of the hurricane. After she finishes that, she might want to find herself a man.

I wonder how they would survive in a strict muslim country where its MANDATORY to go to the local mosque and pray 5 times per day. Also, your absence at prayers are duly noted and dealt with e.g. Saudi Arabia.

Since when is that violating the Constitution?

They may not want to pray - that's fine. But neither the Constitution, nor any law that exists on the books, prohibit prayer in this case...

To The American Atheists organization:

Shut Up.

It's Christian organizations providing an extensive bit of the bulk of donations, charitable donations, counseling and shelters.

Do something productive in your life instead of whining about prayer to a being you don't believe even exists.

Anyone else hear music playing while on this thread? I have no players on and music started coming out of my speakers 4 times, the last 2 times with words. Clouds roll in from the north and stars something or another were in the words. It keeps coming in on its own.
