"This was a test case, and we failed," Jackson Lee said.

Yes Rep Jackson Lee, I agree. The welfare state has most definitely failed.

I hope a lot of these people gain new lives from a culture of self reliance and hope.

"Jackson said evacuees from the Gulf Coast are not refugees, a word he believes suggests subhumans or criminals."

Uh, isn't the history of LA that of refugees from the West Indies and Acadia?

Sometimes a person just wants to take a stick to that Judas goat Jesse Jackson, cheerfully leading 'his people' to the abbatoir of welfarism!

Jesse talks about these people 'rebuilding their houses'. I'd be curious just how many of those people who are being evacuated actually OWNED their homes as opposed to renting. The poorest folks were likely living in the projects or renting, they didn't own anything that they would need to rebuild. Frankly if they were living in the projects, this outpouring of help might be just what they need to break that cycle and make a new start.

Jackson said evacuees from the Gulf Coast are not refugees, a word he believes suggests subhumans or criminals. "It is racist to call American citizens refugees," he said.

Anyone seeking refuge is a refugee, Mr. Jackson. Just as anyone who actually studies to be a "Reverend" can be a "Reverend", not just because you preach a lot.

Personally, I think many of them are trying to get as far away as possible from where they were "acculturated." Judging by the interviews, a lot of them clearly want to get a taste of a different culture. Good luck to them!

"It's a long ways from home," he said. "It's a long way from where they have lived, where they were acculturated."

Translation: Bring them back to the plantation they can'ts live nowhere else.

When you think about Jackson's southing's is rather raciest. Can you imagine Tom Delay saying this?

And thank GOODNESS for that. This is probably a huge blessing for some of those families. Maybe they'll actually learn that THEY can make a change and make better lives for themselves now.

Je$$e may have a point about them not being criminals...the criminals are the ones running NO and the Rainbow Coalition.

News flash, Jesse. Alot of those people are going to find out there's life outside New Orleans, and it's pretty darn good.

They're not coming back.

Sounds racist to me. The culture of America in my experience is quite familiar to anyone from anywhere in America no matter where they go, and getting more so. Moveover, getting off the plantation might do some good, and NO had some aspects of a plantation, a plantation in a bowl, cemented over. Got that Jesse? The man is a pig.

Why don't the "Church and State" types ever tell REVEREND Jesse Jackson to get his nose out of politics?

If this were Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell standing up there with Tom DeLay and Senator Hutchinson the left would be throwing fits.

Says something about Mr. (I refuse to sully the name of "Reverend" by associating it with him) Jackson when he thinks that "refugee" equals "subhuman" or "criminal". Does he seriously think that all "refugees" in Africa are subhuman?

Jesse, you need to get a full time job so you can make those child support payments on your love child.

Don't worry Jesse. More white folks than black folks will decamp, never to come back. When the jobs go, folks go. That is the American way.

Jackson whines, "I can't donate to the Katrina survivors man! I got too many (illegitimate)babies of my own to feed and diaper. There's only enough cash to siphon off for my needs from the Rainbow Coalition man!"

Dear Rev. Jackson,
I was "acculturated" in Los Angeles. And currently reside in Jacksonville. I have done fine. These people will do fine, but then you being a liberal don't think these folks can think on thier own without you telling them what to think. So my suggestion to you is go back to Chicago where you were "acculturated." and SHUT UP!

Landrieu will have a hard time winning the next election if her base is moved out. She only won by 40,000 votes.
