People have seen such horrific things in war. In Vietnam, During WWII and managed to live with those memories. I'm very suspicious about these suicides.

Bush probably told Nagin "either work with me, or get the hell out of the way." (only more politely). Nagin chose the latter.

Blanco chose to obstruct. She cares more about CYA than helping. Nagin may be incompetent, but I think his heart is in te right place.

There are still residents refusing to evacuate even at this late date. Unbelievable! It may be politically incorrect to say this, but when the hell is the media going to start blaming the stubborn citizens who refused to evacuate for all this chaos?

That helicopter crash yesterday wasn't the fault of the pilot. It was the fault of the ignorant citizens who refused to leave before the storm and now refuse to leave after the storm. But I bet they'll be bitching and moaning if they change their minds in a few days and have to wait more than a few minutes for their ride out of town.

On the seventh day, the mayor of New Orleans said he would surrender control of his shattered city to federal and state officials

Good, I think he has done enough damage.

On one of the cable networks yesterday, I heard a police official say one of the suicides happened after an officer found out his wife was dead. The same official didn't know the circumstances of the other suicide.

After the situation has become totally FUBAR, I might add.

And gonna pull the cops and the firemen out? Probably most of them just need a good meal and a night's rest, followed by a swift return to honorable duty.

From all the crime and poverty, it sounds like that city was messed up long before Katrina came on the scene. I have a hard time believing the firemen and cops are overwhelmed by what they've seen this last week if they've worked years for the same departments. Heck, just watching what goes on regularly in the French Quarter should've prepared them for all this crap.

Remember the story about those cops who threw their badges out of the squad car window? Many of them can't wait to get out of NO fast enough-maybe hoping their corruption won't be exposed.

I guess i'm being paranoid on this one. I just don't trust that Nagin the non drug addict.

I hadn't heard that. But i agree with your theory that they were escaping their own corruption.

He sounded like a 70's blaxploitation character in that interview where he blasted Bush, didn't he?

He certainly didn't sound like a mayor that's for sure.

On the seventh day, the mayor of New Orleans said he would surrender control of his shattered city to federal and state officials...

Now if he would just resign along with all city officials, elected and appointed.

Here are some of the mighty mayor's classic quotes from his CNN interview the other day...

Every RNC dollar needs to be put into defeating Blanco in 2007. I have never had more contempt for a politician before.

They state lousiana rats in baton rouge working for the governor blame Bush but then won't give him any control and then hire a former clinton lackey and still blame bush.

Damn that incompetent Blanco's rat bi*ch administration.

People have seen such horrific things in war. In Vietnam, During WWII and managed to live with those memories.

Many did; many didn't; many coped, but badly. People have different capacities for dealing with such things.

I can't imagine what you're "suspicious" about regarding the suicides.
