I thought the Mayor of NYC was a Liberal?

He is. He only ran as a Republican because only a communist can win the DemocRAT nomination in the NYC DemocRAT primary.

I have noticed that dems don't tend to eat their own, but repubs do. What the heck is wrong with these people?
susie

If I recall correctly, Loonberg is a democrat who knew he couldn't get the dem nomination, so ran as a rino, and bought the election with a lot of his own millions.

The way I see it The Orleans Hurricane Evacuation Plan Was not implemented correctly. Which falls back on the City Officials in charge. If they had said Friday buses will be at locations so and so. The city will be fully evacuated (with exceptions of very sick or helpless who will be moved to a more secure area.) When a bus leaves it will be back in x number of hours. Any looters will be shoot on the spot (their is no need to loot food or water before or during the evacuation.)
The mayor is fully responsible for the failure. All the shouting is a smoke screen to CYA their PC failure. Somebody(s) need to be jailed for life over this big mess. And it is not BUSH nor any personal in Federal Office. Why the hell didn't the Governor of the state step in when he saw the foot dragging in the city of N.O. before the storm hit. Everyone saw the weather reports 24/7. Way before the storm hit the city. Why didn't the Media point out on Friday that N.O. was not following its Planned Evacuation? Now that would have been NEWS. One other question. Why didn't the Mayor of N.O. ask surrounding cits and towns for Transportation. Also at the same time request help from the locals to drive the buses in the city. With schools ready to start in Sept. Did the local schools have drivers all ready identified and routes lay ed out. I bet the school boards do not wait until 18 hours before school start to get the drivers needed for the school year.
Had the call gone out on Friday, using all available mass media. Their would have been more drivers then buses to drive. Bet city has a pool of city drivers too. All police cars have built in Bullhorns. Send them out asking for assistance to drive buses and to meet at so and so for assignments. Yes I agree much of what I stated my be considered hindsight. But maybe their is some foresight in it too. A OUNCE of PREVENTION is WORTH a POUND of CURE.
That whole mess up big time just pi$$es me off and makes my blood boil.

How many refugees has NYC agreed to temporarily house? Several TX cities are giving up convention dollars to meet the needs of this disaster, why can't NYC?

Hrm, let's think about this... TX, a few hours away by bus... NY, 12 hours away by bus. Now where are you gonna send refugees? Come on... which number makes more sense? I know you can do this! We're gonna be so proud of your logical thinking skills if you can! Come on... I see the smoke comin off that brain of yours....

Good article. I've been saying pretty much the same thing for the past several days. This all reminded me of the riots in LA when the products of our welfare state were shooting at Firemen and paramedics that were responding to fires and those wounded.

Yep. The author sums up what we've all been saying in various ways and forms since the violence down there at NOLA erupted.

Once again....everybody needs to read THIS...

Instead of launching into ignorant snarkiness, perhaps you should have first read a bit more of the news. Many refugees are being flown out, to Utah, Arizona, and soon even California, all further away than NYC Michigan is taking in 10,000, Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico, Minnesota, and Massachusetts have all agreed to house refugees.

You have named it. He is going after the Dem vote, distancing himself from the president and trying not to look like the only candidate who is too proper to spit on Bush.

You want the guy who promises a stock-transfer tax? That will hurt all the rest of the country too.

Fifty percent of Dominicans in NYC vote. That is high for a Hispanic group. They are politically aware people.

I think he is the favorite to win, as in I expect him to be the winner.

Bloomie vs Ferrer is an awful race.

They have. Probably Governors' Island. Plus a huge bunch of NYPD and FDNY have gone down there.

The distance isn't the problem. Some refugees are going to Portland, Oregon.

But Ferrer promising a cool billion in new taxes. For me, that is sufficient information to qualify him for a good neurologist. You're supposed to promise not to raise taxes. Imagine what Freddy will do when he gets in there: he has a mandate to tax. Much as Bloomberg is an idiot, I can't see having an idiot who will tax us blind.
