Krauthammer - all 3 commentators on Brit Hume program have slammed the Mayor (clueless) and Governor (sobbing), but then slammed President Bush saying his visit Friday didn't go well or he wouldn't have gone back again today. (BS)

I can cut Krauthammer some slack. That segment was the first decent chunk of truth I've seen in days, Krauthammer is right that the President is pulling himself out of a PR disaster. But I think the tide is turning, so to speak.

That was proof that even a very smart person can be stupid sometimes. I just don't see the President saying well, that first visit didn't go well (whatever that is supposed to mean), so I guess I'll fly down there again. Dumb, Charles. He wants people to know he's on this and that the whip is being cracked. He wanted to spread a little hope.

Friday visit has media contact where Bush gives details about the amount of relief delivered, progress is being made, thanks the locals, massive relief effort, et.c Generally congratulatory in tone. ANybody who saw that, after watching news of looting and rapes in the Dome, sensed a HUGE disconnect from reality there.

Saturday AM - Bush's 10 AM speech to the nation is the first time he says the results are unacceptable, IIRC. Big change of tone. If I were to point at the moment in time that GWB admitted his congratulatory "new tone" approach was going to cost lives, it was that moment.

Now, with the "I want to see results" tone in place, he is going back to fill a power vacuum left by Blanco and Nagin. Somebody has to show face there, and he's "it."
