The problem comes in when the FAA investigation gets to the point at which your official statement (filed with the FAA) is compared to statements you made to the press. *Any* inconsistency is probed, probed, and probed again - and you are grilled over it, even if it's the press' fault for getting it wrong.
On top of that, I don't like the press, so I wouldn't talk to them anyway - and more and more people are like me in that respect.
