I think that article has the wrong Friday for Fed offer to consolidate police activity. It says the offer to have a fed takoevr was made before the evacuation began, and before the hurricane even struck. I think the offer was made after more Nat'l Gaurd was in place, after the hurricane, and after it was clear LA state was not up to coordinating restoration of civil order, rescue, relief and evacuation.
It would be presuptuous of the feds to offer to take over before there was a disaster, indeed, even before there was an evacuation order!
Otherwise a good read. I sent the author a note.

I like the music with the still photos. But it was disconcerting to have Geraldo's story on with music. It sort of gave it a fictional aspect, like a movie.

This is a failure of government.
People who depended on government for
their basic safety, the people of NO ,
were failed by their God of Government.
The government did not work well in NO.
Those that preach that government is God, like the
black reverend scumbags, should take a hit from this.
Government failed its dependents.
This should be a lesson to government dependents that they can't depend on government.

Well California has already taken millions of refugees from MexicoSo has Texas, but it hasn't stopped that state from showing compassion. Arizona and New Mexico are also stepping up to the plate.

I think September IS a sweeps month. My question to Oprah... she has been traveling to Africa and giving millions, getting American's to give millions and all the while people in this country are in poverty and pain. Now that she can get some publicity does she suddenly care?

What the libs and media STILL haven't gotten through their pea brain is this:
Whenever they smear the way the war is going in Iraq, or the treatment of prisoners, or the quickness of finding victims of the flood, or stopping up the levee, they can blame Bush, but in all reality, they are critisizing our military...
and in this case, the Coast Guard and National Guard in particular...because they are the ones doing the job.
They still can't figure out that Americans do not like hearing our police, fire, military etc...disparaged by a bunch of whiney babies!!!

Just to really settle my curious mind, is there a reference for [ When it is said that FEMA denied entry into NOLA, the order came from a state authority, not a federal authority. ] Not a neat and tidy one, no. But so-called FEMA activity is driven by local "FEMA deputies" for want of a better word. The state has control, FEMA is there to help, not to override, and in most cases, the FEMA person is in fact a state or local employee.
When the Red Cross was told not to enter NOLA to provide relifef, becuase of a lack of civil order, the direction came from LA state people, not federal people.

Read what the Governor was begging for help with. She wanted reimbursement/loans for every extraordinary expense and help with debris removal. I don't see any mention that she wouldn't be able to secure the evacuation centers or provide food, nor do I see anything about those who remained at their homes.

"It sort of gave it a fictional aspect, like a movie." Well, Geraldo is a movie. A bad one
And I just have to laugh and laugh as each FOX person has to prop up Geraldo. Now, the day that Brit Hume does it, I will eat my hat!
