U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

She is on my mind a lot.

You and me both. I'd like to have the $$ to fly them out here for a bit, just to get away from it all.

< Texas isn't far, far away. Utah is far, far away. I'm telling you... that's all it is. >

...and WV isn't?

The ones who have arrived here so far are being taken to Camp Dawson, a National Guard training camp in Preston County, WV. Check it out on mapquest. It is in the high mountains and is already down into the 50s at night. They are about a month from having frost in the mornings. Talk about culture shock.

I read it. And posted it accidentally on the same thread it's already posted on. I meant to post it here so freepers didn't have to scroll down.

It's shocking. We've read so many things here from people in the relief centers and law enforcement. MSM isn't reporting 1/10th of it.

Yesterday a freeper said there had already been 9 rapes in one of the relief centers in Houston. Nothing in the media. Nada. It doesn't fit their agenda.

Be advised, battle fatigue happens way behind the lines too.

Take care of your basic needs first, sleep and proper nutrition.

When you feel it building up on you, step back for a while and get your head on straight before returning. Pick your times in advance if you can.

The whole country needs to take a "long haul" view of this, because it's going to be exactly that.

"Surge mode" is only good for a few days, after that you have to be capable of a sustained effort.

howlin - did you see the link I made on the last page about building houses on a contaminated landfill? How did that happen and is that what the left is afraid of? Surely what they did has to be illegal.

I wonder if that is why they werent letting regular people
who drove down help with the rescue effort:

"3:11 P.M. - From all corners of this country, hundreds of would-be rescuers are wending their way to the beleaguered Gulf Coast in buses, vans and trailers. But government red tape has hampered many who ache to help Katrina's victims.

Louisiana's Jefferson Parish is desperate for relief, but parish President Aaron Broussard says officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency turned back three trailer trucks of water, ordered the Coast Guard not to provide emergency diesel fuel and cut emergency power lines.

Why? FEMA has not explained. But the outraged Broussard said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" that the agency needs to bring in all its "force immediately, without red tape, without bureaucracy, act immediately with common sense and leadership, and save lives."

The government says it is doing the best it can in the face of a massive and complicated disaster.

"Even as progress is being made, we know that victims are still out there and we are working tirelessly to bring them the help they need," said Michael Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Some of the delays can be explained by the need to control a volatile situation. Long lines of volunteers are being stopped on freeways on their way into New Orleans.

"Anyone who self-responded was not being put to work. The military was worried about having more people in the city. They want to limit it to the professionals," said Kevin Southerland, a captain with Orange Fire Department in Orange County, Calif., a member of one of eight 14-member water rescue teams sent to New Orleans at FEMA's request."

"Haley Barbour has defended the President. he has even defended FEMA"

Haley was the first Republican to actually slap a media fool down. Thursday morning (I think it was) he told Miles O'brien on CNN (words to this effect) "Do you want an interview or don't you? Then let me talk"

My cynical side tells me that when the Admin powers-that-be saw this, and realized that Haley *didn't* dissolve into a pile of dust, they gave the okay for other spokespersons to give 'em hell...

I hope this is more than a passing fad.... :)

I am disgusted with Bobby Jindal and with Newt. I have had it with people who aren't willing to defend the President, and there seem to be a lot of them, aren't there?

Well, to heck with them! Apparently "loyalty" is a foreign concept to them. And Newt Gingrich is not only making critical comments, but setting impossible goals...like rebuilding New Orleans before Mardi Gras 2006!

I don't care HOW conservative Newt Gingrich is; he is a weasel on a par with Bill Kristol, and I will NEVER vote for him. Ever. Not even for dog catcher.

And Howlin, I think Louisiana is totally corrupted on both sides. I am beginning to think those folks that were evacuated should just settle in wherever they are and thenk God they got out!

And I would also like to say that a lot of Louisiana politicians are LOW CLASS PEOPLE, who use vulgar terms and sound like ignoramuses.

And I REALLY want to see a lot more of General Honore, who had me standing in my family room cheering!

CNN quoting from Wonkette now.

CNN evidently has decided to carry through this week with the "Blame Bush" agenda.

Five blogs so far, no one defending Bush.
