I'm watching her too. She is simply graciously beautiful.

Hey.

That guy's got my shotgun.

Except I don't mess around with six rounds on the stock.

7 in the magazine (holds 8), 1 up, and 56 more on a bandolier.

I heard HK had a full auto 12 gauge, 100 RPM rate, 50 in the magazine upright on top of the barrel, nice for human wave assaults, knocking down flooded structures, and punching holes in the sky.

We just got back from delivering a ton of stuff to our rec department. We have 500+ evacuees at the moment staying at our 4-H / state park (cabins, conference hall etc) and will total about 1000 there. The authorities are busing them to the rec dept to pick out the things they need, they are trying to get everyone 3 changes of clothes, personal hygiene items, toys for kids, shoes... My husband was talking to a few of the evacs and he said they were actually in pretty good spirits. A volunteer brought one man 2 pairs of pants in his size, and he said he would only take 1 pair, because he was sure someone else could use the other pair.

We went and bought a few pairs of men's shoes also because they said that was one thing they were in short supply of.

I think we'll go to the 4-H camp one evening and take our soccer balls and see if we can get a pick-up game going, then leave the kids the soccer balls.

I had to keep our boys from giving away all their toys, but they did give a lot, and were very happy to do it, I am proud of them.

For goodness sakes, I had a prayer thread going for Pres. Bush during one of the debates.

I'm just asking questions here so I can understand the Federal response obligation -- and to know those facts for when I talk with other people.

POTUS leaving BR.

Notice that at least one of his Honor Guard is actually wearing a loaded pistol belt.

The storm was HUGE.

That's for sure. My cousin said they had 110mph winds 60 miles inland (Purvis just below Hattiesburg).

Curious if anyone knows why there are comments on TV that some evacuees don't want to come to Utah (too far?)?

I found on Google that Washington DC was placed under federal receivership in 1995. I also found articles about various city or state agencies being placed under federal receivership. I don't know much about it, but I believe the Boston schools were placed under federal receivership back in the 1970s (related to busing) by order of a federal judge.

Sounds as if it can be done.

I hope somebody has had the foresight to keep all these terric links filed so that we can easily get to them later. They are going to be a fount of information later.

Nauti, could you please add Red Cross Family Links on your next thread?

As a result of Hurricane Katrina, thousands of people within the United States and abroad have lost contact with their loved ones.

In an effort to help restore family links, the ICRC - in close cooperation with the American Red Cross - offers the following services to all those seeking information about relatives who may have been affected by the hurricane.

You're confusing the H&K G11 (caseless rifle) with the H&K CAWS.

Thats so true on a local level many blacks are volunteering their churches and homes to the evacuees.

There are a lot of good people down in that area both black and white.

My comments were directed towards Jessie and Al and not to common sense Americans.

I have volunteered to go down for thirty days.

Maybe I will see you down there.

As I began to hear over and over how ferociously Blanco and her cohorts were resisting any Federal presence, I first wondered why you would do this with all of those people at risk and then could not think of any other reason but that they had something immense to hide. LA may be among the worst of the thieves of HS money, but it is far from alone.

That was my initial gut feeling, too. There is a LOT of waste in Homeland Security adnd FEMA. This story could be duplicated throughout the United States. The conditions were ripe for this, and continue to be. The Feds have spent a ton of money on this stuff before adequate oversight could be put in place.

Thanks that's a big help. Question: Could the President or someone else have had the authority to override the Gov in this preparation if it was deemed inadequate? Do they have no choice but to sit back and say 'everyone is gonna die and we can't so a thing about it' when they realize that the Gov is incompetent? These are the arguments I am hearing from people, that they should have stepped in. And no excuses for being left out of the loop or NO officials improperly informing them. One compared it to Enron's President that couldn't claim ignorance. I just want to know the real facts about how this operates so I can have this argument.
