Your point in this post, about waiting for more details is SUPERB. And absolutely the correct one. But then again, if martial law was declared (and I don't know if it has yet officially been done so by NO officials); the police don't need to be fired upon first.
If those on the bridge didn't drop their weapons when told to do so.. oh well.
Regardless of color - I hope the guys shot were criminals, and not innocent people who were looking only to disrespect the cordon.
If you were a first responder, exactly how would YOU react if you rushed to the burning building or crushed car to save people....only to have the b@stards TRY TO KILL YOU?? How many of us even bother to THINK of such a possibility in advance?? WE HELP PEOPLE. They might blame us for not having gotten there an hour before the (tragedy here) happened, but THEY DON'T NORMALLY SHOOT AT US TO PREVENT US FROM HELPING THEM. AM I MAKING MYSELF CLEAR AT ALL TO YOU FLIPPING BUCH BLAMERS THAT THE SURVIVORS ARE NOT EXEPECTED TO KILL THOSE TRYING TO SAVE THEM??
</rant mode off>
That's an odd thing to say in a time when President Bush is getting clobbered the the Commie "DemocRATS" and their toadies in the MSM for not overreacting in a more timely manner.
Hmmm, let me think... (Crickets chirping) There needs to be some reporting, just for history's sake, but this editorializing every single word & deed is disgusting.
No, you can't let it ride. That kind of comment is inexcusable even in tense times.
I think the point of the account of the guys going in to get their property was twofold. First, that unsourced vanities are not all drek, and second, that some people walking the streets, armed, are good guys.
Just dawned on me. Who is going to feed and house the thousands of lawyers who will descend on NO?
To say it stinks, or to say it was a great thing based on what little we know is not really a reasonable response.
I dunno stopem,,everyone is armed now, civilians, everyone. And if I were in NO, I would be armed. And plain view is okay, I think that is what you do if you don't have a concealed carry. But what do I know.
I hope this was a case of all of them shooting. If it isn't, I just tire thinking of it. Maybe Nagin was right, maybe the NOPD needs some R and R. Think about it, alot of their compadres left the job, they were left in horrid circumstances with no communication, no support.
And I will bet that the last rules of engagement the NOPD had included "do not shoot unless directly threatened". I will bet that.
Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The responses of the drooling masses at DU makes me sick.
I am surprised that there has been so little comment on the information she conveyed that her cousin was an officer with the NOPD, and he was asked to surrender his badge and told "there will be no work for you for about 5 years."
if they were law abiding, which I doubt, I'm sure they'd have obeyed orders to drop their weapons..like I said previously, the law abiding citizens with guns aren't out walking around..they're sitting in their place of business and homes protecting their property, not out wandering around when law enforcement has a shoot to kill order..
Yep, that's how it's gonna be played on CNN for sure
If they were armed and threatening the cops and refused to drop their weapons when ordered, they deserved what they got.
Cops are not obligated to take a bullet first.
Gee, ya think the punks are getting the point yet?
They(law enforcement)should have anticipated the lawlessness that would follow a natural disaster and taken the offensive from the get go!What they did was run for the tall grass!!
Good. A few SOBs dead. Works for me.
CNN anchor seems, in my opinion, disturbed by this news.
