Louisiana Evacuation Plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000. Page 13, paragraph 5:
"5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating. "

People should not have to ride in school buses because their suspension systems are so rough that you can't sleep very well on them...beeside, greahound buses have movies sometimes.

All should know that these buses ARE supposed to be used to evacuate those needing help whenever there is a hurricane evacuation order. To my knowledge, buses have never been deployed in previous hurricane emergencies in NO.
Save the buses, not the people.

Unless you are speaking of transporting the very ill or wounded, a school bus will do just fine. The boy who made off with a school bus to take a group of passengers to the Astrodome (before any of the official buses arrived) proved that perfectly.

I read, (don't have the link at present) that Nagin, when asked would he use the school buses, complained and demanded Greyhounds be sent, he said, and I quote loosly, "school buses don't have any bathrooms, how am I going to get them to Texas without bathrooms"
