This 20 year old did what Mayor Nagin did not. "When he arrived at the Astrodome about 10 p.m. Wednesday, 20-year-old Jabbar Gibson modestly confessed that he had commandeered a school bus in New Orleans, then picked up about 70 passengers before heading out for the 13-hour trek to Houston."

If we can figure out where to send it, I am ready to send a check to this young man to show him how proud we Americans are of him.

To be used for his family, education, whatever is needed.

The sad thing is that decades of welfare culture in New Orleans left it with damn few men like Mr. Gibson capable of taking command of the situation. In most communities, the men would have gotten things organized and figured out what needed to be done, and done it. In New Orleans, it seems the men were all looting and shooting, while the women and children drowned and starved and the old folks died.

...then picked up about 70 passengers

That's 70 more than Shepherd Smith and Jerry Rivers took out between them in 6 days.

I don't know if I could actually physically drive a school bus. Doesn't it require either a commercial license, or at least knowledge of how something that big handles? Surely it's different from my little Saturn (even though they are both manual, I think).

In addition to prosecution for stealing a bus, Mr. Gibson will also be charged with driving a bus without a Commercial Driver License. He also lacks Passenger and Air Brake endorsments. He will also be charged with allowing passengers to stand in front of the white line.

Please, please pick me for the jury. This kid is so far the only hero with a name from this tragedy.

Bush needs to do a prime time speech and give this young man the recognition he deserves.

A couple days ago, it sounded like some thugs stole a bus that night.

We now know that is not the case, and it is great. God bless him.

Thank you Jabbar Gibson.

He's the only one not elected, yet
he's a "take charge guy."

He's only 18. He told Greta that.

The kid just did, and to his credit, exactly what any thinking person without other available transportation would have done.

Too bad his moron of a Mayor couldn't think of the same thing. Guess he was too busy flushing crack and moving his assets to offshore accounts.
