General roars into action in New Orleans

ATLANTA - When the cavalry finally arrived in New Orleans to help the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, a cigar-chomping three-star general led the way.
That was Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, commander of the 1st Army, based at Fort Gillem in Atlanta. Normally he oversees training for all deploying troops on the East Coast.
For the time being, the Louisiana native is the man in charge on the front line in New Orleans. He is also coordinating military relief efforts for all storm-ravaged areas along the Gulf Coast.
Honore is winning over even some of the government's harshest critics, including New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, who blasted the Bush administration's initial response to his city's disaster.
"He came off the doggone chopper, and he started cussing, and people started moving," Nagin told a radio station. "I give the president some credit on this. He sent one John Wayne dude down here that can get some stuff done."
Honore and thousands of National Guard troops rolled in Friday and Saturday, bringing food, water and a sense of safety.
The general was careful to show he was leading a humanitarian relief mission in his home state.
"Put those ... weapons down!" he yelled to troops rolling in on trucks.
He repeatedly strode up to soldiers, and sometimes the local police, telling everyone to point their guns down, reminding them they were "not in Iraq."
Honore is from Lakeland, La., northwest of Baton Rouge. He also has a daughter and other relatives who live in New Orleans, according to CNN.

"Put those ... weapons down!" he yelled to troops rolling in on trucks. He did not say to put them down. He said to point them down.

It doesn't hurt that the John Wayne dude is an African-American
Holy Hanna! Are you serious? He is?? That is the best news I've heard in a l-o-n-g time! Finally, a black male who can be an example to put in front of the lazy-a$$ed, sperm-spreading, shiftless, low-life black males in the black 'community' that are a disgrace to every respectable black family in America.

Agree, I have not heard the status of the looters inc., so was curious if these orders were because they had been rounded up.

Can we get his home address and Google Earth it?

Excellent point on the "Where's the Military?"
As far as the other comments on "Women get out of the way", I just put in a bag of micro-wave popcorn for this one...

Time will tell if he's a 'wannabe' or a genuine article. Right now, he's got my vote.
Regarding my senate-president previous comment, I meant all in good time and in the normal order of events. Our current President in his quiet way is pulling this situation out of the mire of incompetence.

"As the husband of a wife who is strong and self-made, I can say this: Govornor, you are a disgrace to every strong American woman who has worked hard, raised a family and plants their feet firmly and makes decisions daily on the management of their family. Get lost."
You and ME BOTH!
I will follow a good leader no matter if they are Female or Male...and if there is NO GREAT leader to follow...then get out of the way..I will make my OWN decisions, thank you. And they will NOT BE ONES where I am CRYIN' on the TV about how no one is HELPING ME!
And in our house...we live paycheck to paycheck too..
But, there is enough food and supplies (gotta get more water) to survive the "Seattle Earthquake" that is always predicted...when that big one comes..there WILL NOT be 3+ days of warning!
I understand that there is a BIG difference with all of the flooding...the main one being that I WOULD HAVE SOME WARNING!
If we had too, we would have loaded up the stroller, loaded up the rolling suitcases and the backpacks and gotten the "HECK" out of here~
Diapers are a problem though..the are so big and bulky...hard to choose between diapers and food!
But we would have made it out~ no doubt in my mine...
Of course, it doesn't hurt that my husband is in the military! :-)
Thanks for your post!
I have been thinking the same thing as I have been reading about how the "women" and "girly men" need a "Strong man" to follow...maybe the "girly women" do...but WE are not those "Girly women" now, are we????

Ray Nagin is a critic??? Dont make me laugh. He should be arrested for incompetence. While people were dying he ran off to bato Rouge. What a POS.
Ray Nagin is trying to cover up his own incompetence by passing out blame on anyone he can think of.

Yep, let canary Nagin keep singing. It's all being duly documented and filed.

"He came off the doggone chopper, and he started cussing, and people started moving," Sometimes that is exactly what is needed. Someone to kick people in the @ss and get them moving in a coordinated manner.
