MEMO TO BUSH: FIRE MICHAEL BROWN
By Michelle Malkin · September 04, 2005 08:17 AM During his visit to Mobile, Ala., on Friday, President Bush singled out Michael D. Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, for praise:
"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."
Really? "Brownie's" job is to direct the federal response to natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. Let's review his public statements during the past week:
- He admitted that he didn't act more aggressively because as late as last Sunday he expected Katrina to be a "standard hurricane" even though the National Weather Service in New Orleans was already predicting "human suffering incredible by modern standards."
- He proved himself utterly clueless about the disaster unfolding in New Orleans. He claimed that the federal relief effort was "going relatively well" and that the security situation in New Orleans was "pretty darn good."
- He blamed the flood victims in New Orleans for failing to evacuate on time, even though local authorities failed to make municipal vehicles available to residents who could not drive or did not own their own cars.

FEMA got hit with a double whammy, a catrostrophic hurricane and an inept and almost criminally incompetant state and local govt.
Time for michelle to put down her poison pen and poitn fingers at the true incompetants, nagin and blanco.
Ah, good conservatives, fighting back again!!
I love it when they get tough.
Dubya should can Norm Mineta while he's at it.
I don't think Brown has done a bad job - he's been doing what FEMA does, which is NOT police services or anything like that, but the distribution of things like sandbags and grant request forms.
However, he's not good at dealing with the press. Unfortunately, neither is Scott McClellan.
AND CHERTOFF who has made more contratictory statements in the last week than -- and I HATE to say this -- Bill Clinton did about Monica in his the entire impeachment thing.
Too bad he can't fire Blanco and Nakin as well.
They have a lot of blood on their hands.
poison pen? yeah, i guess telling the truth is called that nowadays.
absolutely!!!
Yeah right. Malkin is nothing but a shrill for the anti-Bush crowd.
Well, at least this time the legacy media can't claim that Michelle is a "Bush brown-noser"...
I agree. Brown should go.
I'm as fed up with the "blame Bush for Katrina" nonsense that is being bandied about, but it is folly to think that the entire chain of command at the federal level is flawless.
I have been none too happy with Michael Chertoff, either. He may be doing good work, but he has also been busy making statements that sound idiotic in light of the facts.
Bush is well known for loyalty to those who work for him. This should not prevent him from letting go of people who let the country down.
The city leaders had at least two full days to use these hundreds of buses to evac the poor, exactly as their own emergency management plan called for.
Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000. Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states:
5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.
New Orleans is not your run of the mill city. Just take a look at Rudy Guilaini's response and nagin's.
New Orleans has always been a cesspool of incompetance and corruption.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
"Huh nothing about the inept mayor nagin and governor blanco."
She's been slamming the mayor and Blanco all week. She makes a valid point about Brown. I wasn't impressed with his tv persona.
FRom what I understand--(will dig up article if I have time)...Brown Called the mayor on Friday/Saturday night (don't quote me on the time) and so did Max Mayfield from NHC and told the mayor: "get the people out of New Orleans".
Yeah, it's always a circular fire sqaud on the Right. Rather than fix the blame where it should be --at the state and local level-- they are going to blame MIke Brown. So disgraceful. This is plainly Michelle's jump the shark moment.
Yep like buchanan she has to keep chummy with her liberal friends in the beltway.
If she doesn't no more appearnces on MSNBC to bash the President.
